Dumb Key

Or maybe just dumb owner. I have an 07' GT. Scenario: Get out of vehicle to get something in the back. Only driver door was unlocked. smart key in pocket. Go to open tail gate, crap its locked, mad. Attempt to push rubber button underneath gate.... beep.beep.beep madder. take out fob hit unlock...beep.beep.beep now really pissed. I have found only two solutions. Either walk away from vehicle and allow to auto lock then push tail gate button, or run quickly to driver door and hit unlock before auto lock engages. Tell me, am I making this too complicated. (braindead)

second tier unlock has to be engaged before the gate opens. In same scenario, get out, press unlock TWICE, then the gate opens. The remote entry doesn't remember that you already unlocked the drivers door. To unlock everything else is always a second press.

Or, before getting out, just press the unlock button on your door

Lindyrect,
It is indeed bad programming in my view.

What I do is hit the SmaryKey button on the hatch twice consecutively.
The 1st one will lock the door (dumb, I know)
The 2nd one will unlock all doors and hatch
This way, fob remains in the pocket.

Of course, you can also pull out the fob and hit unlock twice.
In either case, the 1st and 2nd unlock must be done within 1-2 seconds.

My wife would disagree that it's bad programming every time she gets into our car in a dark parking lot.

The first press only unlocks the driver door so no one can hide and jump in from the other side of the car.

How about just pressing the unlock on the interior switch as you open the door,to go to the hatch.

In my opinion it is bad design/programming because my other car (Toyota Prius) allows you to access the hatch even it is locked. It unlocks first then open with one gentle press on touch pad.

Because CX9 only unlocks the driver door at 1st unlock, if you get off the vehicle and try to access the hatch. You will find yourself in the situation as described by the OT. It has happened many times to me over the period of more than 1 year. It will happen to you, I am sure. The need to access the hatch may arise AFTER you have closed the driver's door....

Exactly.

We're talking about pressing a button. Not lifting the car over your head and twirling it to open the hatch.

A regular car isn't going to work the same anyway, because the trunk isn't part of the interior normally. The liftgate is essentially a passenger door, therefore I appreciate the extra step needed to open it.

(2thumbs)

Sorry for the confusion. Forgot to put in the post that I left the Driverside door open when I went to the tailgate.

yeah. Just hit the door lock button on your door before heading to the back. The door buttons don't require the double press of the remote. Think of it like getting gas. As you get out, you automatically pull the fuel door release. If you're getting out to access the liftgate, just make a habit of hitting the unlock button. You liked my twirling idea, though, didn't you?
