same thing happened to me yesterday, I shifted into 2nd and floored it. I head this loud ass BANG, And my DSC was on.

My 2 cents.........the bang is from the lower motor mount and its terrible design. That bang your hearing is the motor mount slamming back into the chassis during wheel hop or basically anything thats shocking the drivetrain. The motor mounts rubber in this car are to soft for the amount of trq that can be sent through the tires.
I have heard this bang also on my drives.
As for all the idiots that want to jump on the bang wagon of blaming people for not knowing how to drive theirs cars........ well STFU. i love how everyone that posts drives like a saint. Thats total horse s***.......... you don't even have to be driving hard to hear the "bang". i did the same just mildly accelerating in 3rd , got some wheel spin on a steel road cover and when i got to the other side the tires hooked and BANG.
Cars are meant to be driven PERIOD. they are not meant to be abused, but whats YOUR definition of Abuse? One might say going to the track, others might say driving fast....ETC.... Its all bulls***. Abuse is driving the car on the freeway at 80mph and then dropping it into 2nd gear and side stepping the clutch . Abuse would be something along the terms of what jackass did to that one rental car in the crash up derby. Abuse is when a person DELIBERATLY wants to damage the car................. THATS abuse. Showing a buddy how fast your car is and then accidently running over a man hole is not abuse. Its bad luck, but thats it.
One thing i love about this board. People are quick to SLAM mazda for problems they have and expect the damn world, or people are quick to Slam the drivers cause the "All knowing" believe the driver ABUSED the car.
Hell mazda says themself, in order to launch the car dump it at 1500 rpm and "Speed" shift at 5500. Is this abuse? MAzda said to do it, so it can't be abuse if they Tell you to do it.............
Got a warranty right........... Drive the car ANYWAY YOU WANT.......... HEll you make the payments RIGHT? Enjoy it and maybe invest in a lower motor mount.

I could be wrong on the rpm but either way...............
I've taken my car to the track once (didn't get times due to problem at the track) but around 2k drop and my car would dig then bog then wheel hop its ass off. After that i just slipped the clutch a little to get it going. BESIDES theirs only so much power you can send to the front wheels (sig check).
Another thing, powershifting is not good for any tranny yet this is what Mazda suggests to get a good time, so again is it abuse?
MAzda should have made a better designed motor mount/s to atleast stop the BANGING noise under hard shifts or launches. with this being a premium /limited production car, the engineers are not dumb and think people are going to drive it like Grandma does. I haven't up graded my lower mount yet, so in the mean time i Don't "abuse" the car on launches, besides its truely not worth it. i just take off nicely , and then roll into it, if i need to.

Like I said I dont see one person on here making enough buzz to get a recall and my Mazda tech called it in with me standing there and showed me their web site where they list complaints and there was nothing of this.
He did show me a RX-8 tranny that was all jacked up but also said the guy must drive like an idiot although its all warranty covered. DOesnt mean its a recall or anything like that nor does it mean that its a POS but things happen and you know why it happened so keep on flat shifting and let us know what you break next.

Justa4banger is right, I never said my car was broken. All I wanted to know was what the sound was. Now I know. Thanks to everyone who gave their honest and pleasent feedback, I appreciate it.

I have my own concerns about the MS3. the motor mount bolt breaking isn't normal and should be addressed and that "banging" noise should also be addressed. I shouldn't have to mod my car just to get rid of noises that occur when i drive my car. First time that bang happened to me, i was OH s***!. but after i gave a good look over and then read a few (and i mean few) things on here, i know why it happens.
the rest of the bulls*** on this board is just that, bulls*** some smart people, most are uninformed making alot of WAG's (wild ass guesses)

I just saw the link to 5252's thread about break in period. You do realize that the rings seat within the first 30 min of the engine running, which means the engines ready to go once it leaves the plant.
OTHERWISE you would never get to test drive a car, becuase theres a chance that one spirited drive in a new car could break it...........
Break in period is something that carried over from the old days of car manufacturing. I bought my car, drove 280 miles round trip the first night and had the car on curise at 80mph the entire way. on the way back the wife drove and did what ever. the next day i was seeing how far on the taqch the needle would really go.
Did that with my last car (2000 gtiVR6) and had it 7 years before it broke, oh wait, maybe the nitrous broke it........... hell i dunno. drove that car for 2.5 years on the bottle, probably had 12 bottle refills and didn't have any issues til the timing chain broke. Took it to the dealer and even VW said nothing should have broke the TIMING chain. Got a new motor in that car. Now did i express the fact i HAD nitrous in it, NO, but then again it was a silly 55 shot and YES it was tuned. I ran a WBo2 in the car. I didn't burn a valve, detonate, or burn a piston. timing chain just snapped.
In the end stop passing judgement on people you don't know. we already know NO ONE HERE ON THE BOARD DRIVES AS GOOD AS YOU, so be proud of that fact and keep it to your damn self. CHeers (cheers)
