?DSC option for 2009 Mazda5?

I've seen that electronic stability control (DSC) is available as an option on certain Mazda5 trim levels in Europe and Japan. Any news on whether this will be part of the 2009 models marketed in the US? Or will Mazda be waiting until 2012 when its mandated? Thanks!

^^ Until is mandated or if enough potential buyers make a lot of noise (protest). There is an article somewhere that mentioned that the Mazda NA CEO has not heard anything from the crowd that DSC is really needed (which to some degree I agree).

People were screaming about other things like 2nd row a/c, more armrests... and that happened in the 2008 facelift, so who knows...

So, bug Mazda I would say :D

probably not..(ghey)

i think... when Mazda NA introduces new Mazda5(total model change)- which i don't know when.....then i am sure.. ESC will be standard...

bah...stability control on a FWD vehicle with a predictable suspension; seems totally pointless to me. But isn't the government mandating it soon, or something to that effect?

Quick answer: by 2012. From Wikipedia: US regulations for ESC for all passenger vehicles under 10,000 pounds (4536 kg), phasing in the regulation starting with 55% of 2009 models, 75% of 2010 models, 95% of 2011 models, and 100% of 2012 models.

I would have bought ESC if it were available, any extra margin of safety would be greatly appreciated. Unlike ABS, accident prevention data for ESC has been proven.

I don't have any issues with ABS...when you come around a rainy corner and see a deer, have to slam on your brakes; it's really tricky not to lock em up without abs. Especially in such a short period of time. But every stability control system I have used feels intrusive in ways I don't like. I know some of the really advanced ones have settings that let you get away with some crazy stuff, but still have your butt saved in a pinch.

I dunno, FWD cars just never do anything unpredictable enough for me to want electronic aids other than ABS. I don't live near snow though.
