Drivers Door Lock

Hello all, I just purchased a 02 P5 and have a few questions. The drivers door does not lock with the lock/unlock button on the drivers door. it will lock with the key. i dont have a remote yet, but i am going to buy one. is this by design or is there something wrong with my car? also what is the "best" way to make the power outlet stay on at all times? im not a fan of hacking wires but i hate that it turns off with the key. and also.. are these things really capable of doing what the speedometer reads or are they governed?

as far as your door goes, your door lock actuator is bad. not sure on the specifics on the actuators for the P5s. it my very well be build into the latch assembly or available seperately. as for the accessory socket, it would be easiest to wire a "hot at all times" toggle switch to the socket. make sure its fused and dont forget about it, or you will end up with a dead battery, the very thing that the factory wanted to prevent when they made the accessory socket hot with the key on. and they are definitely speed limited. you would be lucky to hit 130 downhill. lol no but really. i dont know what they top out at exactly

ok, thank you. i will price shop on an actuator. as far as the power outlet goes, i use it to charge a cell phone only, so no concerns of a dead battery there.

It could just be a bad wire connection too. If the actuator is bad it should whine when you try to lock it you'll hear it. It won't do anything over 118 unless you get a tune to remove the gov. (yes its possible) but I was going down hill on istate and it took forever to get there.makes me miss a v8. As far as everything being on I assume you are talking about just the windows right? If so there's a how to thread on here it takes about 3-5min I believe you just move 2 of the fuses.and welcome to the forum almost anything u need to know is in here

Missed the last part of ur post sorry disregard window talk then ;) honestly the easiest way to do it is have another key made and just leave it on the acc when u get out just make sure u lock it,or you could get another cig lighter assembly and run it straight to the battery make sure u run a fuse into the wires so it won't overload your cell phone and fry it. I don't think it would be that hard to do

Open the actuator. Usual failure is a plastic gear. Search the forum (not uncommon). Cheap solution has been found.

I hear no noise when hitting the lock button. and also.. how can I be sure this car is equipped with keyless entry before buying a remote? also i cannot find the thread telling me how to repair the actuator if the gear is messed up.. any help there?

Tzar it does have a governor mine won't do over 118. I've only tried once but I still did. If your turbo then u might not have one if ur using a piggy back or standalone or the mazdaspeed might not have one.but as far as the my mp3 is concerned if u wana do more than 118 find a big hill. Anything after 80-100 is kinda pointless in our cars anyway cause they have no power

The Best thing to do is take your Door Panel off and replace your actuator or just take a look at it sometimes theres a belt in there that might of fallen off make sure that the belt didn't fall off before you replace the Actuator because its kind of Expensive. Youll definitely need a good Remote pad and pad lock to. As far as the Cigarette outlet goes your best bet is to just replace the Cigarette outlet there only $15.00 but you will have to remove the center Council to do it.

I think they do have a governor. My old P5 would barely do 120 downhill, and my MSP cuts out at 130. There is no belt on the door lock actuator, just gears in a box, and it's pretty easy to replace just kinda hard to get to. You have to replace the whole unit, I haven't heard of anyone that makes just the gears. Check out onlinemazdaparts.com if you want to save some $ on OEM parts. Cut the power wire to the Cig lighter port and hook up a new wire that is hot with the ignition on, shouldn't be too hard.

Yes the p5's do have a governor my P5 can easily reach 100 no problem but i notice that at 80 miles an hour the car seems like its reached its peak i mean the car is Moving ridiculously fast for a car like mine at that speed. It doesn't like to go past 80 miles an hour with out the motor screaming i feel like 80 is even pushing it to far in the P5. Actuaotrs are always a pain in the neck to get to Thanks for letting me know that theres no belt it cuts my time in half. I herd The Fords Focus Wagons have Belts by the Actuators im glad these dont! Youll feel alot better if you just went to the store and bought a cig replacement lighter for $15.00 and replaced it dont hack any wires just do it the right way!

Hi,

Can u pleezz point me to the cheap solution for door for plastic gear failure. Thank-you
Also is teh lock system cable or rod system?

My autotragic will pony up to 100 without any effort, I've had it up close to 110mph before to see where the limits are, didn't hit cutout. Didn't need downhill either. I don't make any kind of habit of this but it did do it surprisngly effortlessly and in fairly short order from 75 but not saying it put you back in the seat or anything like that but it didn't struggle a bit getting there. Was on a nice wide flat cement empty freeway and no other cars were involved so no need to bust out with any danger scolding nonsense.

onlinemazdaparts dot com. Call them, talk to the guy referenced in the door actuator thread when you do search on it. It is rod system and each actuator is 40.00 or so 50 shipped.
