Down pipe & cat eliminator Group Buy!

On an exhaust note <no pun intended> I removed the almost 15lb resonator that was on the exhaust and welded in a 2.25" straight pipe and gained NO difference in sound. HOWEVER, something happened and by the ole "Butt-Dyno" It feels like 20hp. I'm not saying it produced any power, just feels that way and there's no sound increase to mislead me. I was going to be in on this GB, until I found out how much it would cost me to make my own Identical to this set-up. The pipe costs me $7, drilling the bung for the O2 is free and welding in my own nut for the sensor to screw into is about $.35. I figure my total cost out the door will be right around $199+shipping if anyone is interested. MY cost will only be $10.00appx. YOUR cost will be closer to $200. <sarcasm> I will make my own "cat-eliminator" pipe and figure up exact costs. Unfortunatly I don't have dyno access, but I'm 99% sure the figures will be VERY close to the posted 11hp. If anyoen is interested in this unit for a much cheaper cost send me an email off-list to SVTMATTY@BELLSOUTH.NET I'll get together with my partner and see how many of these we can turn out right now. Thanks

Hey force fed who is making these pipes for that much money $200 dollars for a section of pipe with a 90 mandrel bend to it you are ripping people off dude. what is the going rate for 2 flanges, 4 ft of pipe and two welds. I will make one for under $50, thanks anyway.

By the way, w/o the cat there is no need for the 02 sensor anyway, you might as well disconnect the sensor all together

I asked a buddy of mine who is more into the diagnostic systems and he said to still leave it in there, but it shouldn't throw any CEL's, the O2 sensor would be a lot like the vice president.....you can see it, you know it does something, just nothing usefull.

guys first i want to say good s*** on making your own pipe upgrades. thats alot cheaper but i dont agree on the O2 .
who says it wont trip a CEL.
it is there to monitor efficiency. it has a job , be safe and leave it in.

I am a mazda tech and see 02 monitored cat efficency problems all of the time, the only reason why there is a second 02 sensor is to tell the owner that it might not pass emissions if they don't do anything about the cat. even if you spend the extra money/time to put the second 02 sensor in there it will still set the check engine light, and even if the check engine light is on it doesn't affect anything but a little light on the dash. My point is that it seems to me like whoever is trying to set these down pipes up don't really know everything they should to keep the costs down, and are just trying to take advantage of a new market where unlike honda's not everything has been adressed by the aftermarket. Good luck, just thought since this is a public forum it would also be public knowledge. you can count me out

******* OBD II(upyours)

RX-kevin you are both right and wrong!Right in the fact that the 2cd O2 doesn't do much but wrong in the fact that you can make this pipe for 50 bones !If you make it in 1 peice like this one how much is that flex section gonna run you? Prob about 40 bucks,Plus 4 foot of stainless pipe isn't cheap nor is MANDREL bending! And ,If I read your post right (I could be wrong)you said something about not putting the 2cd O2 in at all,THis is a no no ,no matter what kind of car you are working on!This pipe isn't setting a CEL either as of now!If you are a Mazda tech giving out that info ,I personally don't want you working on my car!(Nothing personal ,I just don't like the way your mind works."OH just get rid of it ,it doesn't do anything anyway!":wtf:

For everyone else you should get contacted on Mon. These guys were double checking the fitment of the pipe last week to make sure that we don't have any issues.
YES THIS BUY IS STILL ON, BE PATIENT!!

Thanx,Matt:cool:

I hadn't planned on doing the mandrel bend on my pipe I'm making. I was going to use a larger diameter pipe and then flare the end for the flange. I figure the extra .25" should compensate for the mandrel bend. Also, something to keep in mind is the performance gained from this type of set-up isn't in the smoothness of the 1 bend it has, it's in the lack of restriction from having no cats. On a side note, my bonestock MSP only ran a 10.3 @ 72mph tonight in the 1/8th. Anyone else have times??

Hey turbo matty p ,I went over some of my time slips(we run 1/4 mi. here)but it does give me all the numbers(60 ft.,300ft.,1/8 mi. time and speed ,etc.)and you should be able to do better than that!I pulled a 9.7@73 W/ 1/4 of 15.1 @91!Your time of a 10.3 is somewhere in the neighborhood of a 15.9-16.0 in the 1/4.Man that is really slow for an MSP!What were your 60 ft. times?these might reveal the prob?

I know exactly where my problem is, I have horrible boost surging and can't launch worth a s***. I'm new to the "import" scene, but have been a drag racer for almost 10 years now. I've never seen a car have so much axle hop. It feels like the wheels are about to bust through the fenderwells. Also, the turbo feels like it has flat-spots in it. I figure this will all be eliminated with my new boost control valve and BOV. I know my times were pretty slow, but the local Hond-ites seemed to think my car was pretty sweet none the less. They thought I was more furious than Fast!

Turbo Matty P

Yes ,the MSP's have violent wheel hop ,Sometimes it feels like it will just destroy the car!But yeah i experimented for two days at the track before i found a good launch technique for the MSP!In another post someone said it very well,The slip drop technique!I rev it to like 3K and just start to slip it (just a millisecond) and then i dump the clutch which produces some wheel hop but not so violent! This gave me my best 60ft. and my best 1/4 times!Let me know what you think? You should be able to get at least a 15.3 or a 9.8 or 9.9 in the 1/8.

I also ran a 9.4 in the 1/8, so i guess something is working
What's working is your MBC @ 10 PSI huh? I know your not trying to start anything but i just don't like the you dont need it attitude on some of your posts.I have nothing against you and I have found some of your posts informative and some funny so don't think i'm flaming you ,but we were both talking about track numbers from stock MSP's .Not ones with mods or the boost turned up!Once again not FLAMING!just my opinion.I'll be pulling good numbers too with my new mod's .Great to see someone that has mods run at the track !you're our guinea pig!LOL!
:D

I figure my 10psi and NX N-ter cooler should help get me down where I need to be, but honestly 9.4s?? I've driven this car about 1500 miles and it pulls nicely, just not 9.4's! I don't see any 220hp preludes running 9.4's and they have a 50hp advantage and a weight advantage. On a similar note I ran a 220hp prelude with a 50hp shot of NOS and he only ran about .4s faster than my 10.6s run. I'm not sure where you guys are getting these fast times from. I want one of you to drive MY car and see what you get!

Hey Turbo Matty P , beleive it these are real times,if i had a scanner i would scan my time sheets for you !I have pulled like 6 9.7's out of 9 runs(thats all I have run it,it was for baseline times only before mods)If you go to 10 PSI and the Ntercooler set up ,expect low,low 9's in the 1/8 mi. or even better.I will be running an Ntercooler set up as well when i get my ride back and get all my goodies installed.I won't be happy till I hit the 13's in the 1/4mi.
13's at all costs MMWHHAAHAAAA!!!! IT will be done as this is my will! The will is strong in this one!(laugh)
