Door Lock Actuator, Right?

pretty easy, just pop off the clips around the door card, remove the handle, and then pop off the handle brace cover to access the last screw. then peel off the sticky plastic sheet, be careful not to get the black crap on you or your clothes, it's a b**** to get off. look down into the door and unscrew the actuator.

there should be a guide in the how-to section of the forums.

get this and replace the gear instead of buying a brand new unit.

My driver's door had been broken since I bought the car last winter because I was too cheap to spend $75+ on the whole actuator. I found the plastic piece Brian_K linked to last week and installed it yesterday -- works like a charm! $15 is much better than $75...

Way to go finding the fix. I just put two gears in today in both of my rear doors. Now the car just makes a nice and quite locking sound when I hit the remote. It's kind of startling silence compared to the RATTLE that I had gotten so used to hearing.

Get this and fix your own door lock actuators. Dude, 56 sold so far x $15 = $840 !!! So glad you made these gears, man!

When I press my unlock button it does not unlock my drivers side door but I do not hear noise as well. Reading this thread, from what i understand, the actuator is the problem if it does not unlock but you hear a noise. Is that correct? My driver side front and back door are the same. Do you guys think it is still the actuator or is it something else?

Hey guys, I'm having some difficulty installing an actuator in the rear door (passenger side). I thought I got it installed nicely, but if I electronically lock twice, it's > VERY < difficult to pull up the lock knob manually.

Any ideas?

I would check your connecting rods to see if they're binding or rubbing. Perhaps a bit of grease on the pivot points.

I would think that extra force to pull up the knob would be stressing your new actuator and snap that worm gear in no time.

Does the knob pull up easily if you only electronically lock it once ??? If so, maybe a rod is being pulled too far and jamming ???

Yeah, I'll be taking off the trim probably tomorrow. Thank god I didn't put the handle back on though that thing is a PITA haha...

Manual lock/unlock = normal
electronic lock/unlock = normal
electronic lock + manual unlock = normal
electronic unlock + manual lock = normal
electric lock + electronic lock + manual unlock = TOUGH! Maybe 3x tougher to pull up than stock !
I didn't think to try with a double unlock :\

Basically it all works if I unlock/lock it once electronically in any direction. The problem occurs when I double electronically lock it.

edit: and I pulled out the fuse when I noticed the problem, hopefully no damage has been done!
