Dog Owners, Caution about Greenies!

i've given my dog two of those before, like 3 months apart, their not meant to be eaten as a treat or like a bone. It clearly states on the pack, and its something close to Nylabone not AS plasticky but still. Nylabone will straight up kill a dog.

my dog will eat anything, she is like a mini horse she can swallow most other animals and small childern without chewing. We mainly feed her rawhides as a treat.

Kong balls, footballs, soccer balls and a giant 4 foot rawhide bone is all my dog can chew and only when someone is in the room with him. He will swallow anything. He has eaten my wifes stockings, underware, my kids toys and luckily he has passed all of them. I tried to tell the wife she could wear the stockings and undies after they were washed. She was not having it though.

my dog ate a pooka shell necklace of mine and she pood that out no prob. Thats the only thing shes eaten that could've possibly torn her stomach. Labs have internals of metal i tell ya

I saw that on CNN. After watching that, I will never give my dog another Greenie. He has only had a couple, which I think we got for free as samples from the pet mart.

Well my dog decided to chew on my new HKS replacement element tonite (bang) (hand) So now I gotta be on poop partol to make sure he poops out the part he ate. On top of that, I gotta order a new damn element. These aint cheap either.

my pit barfs them back up... I cant give her rawhide or anything.. :( she only gets Kongs, etc........

thats a shame, mine LOVES rawhides,I just have to make sure she eats it proper, when it comes to rawhide, she will inhale them.

Theres always been negative hype on greenies...truth of the matter is anything that a dog just gulps down can get lodged in his throat and be enough to kill him. I mean....the greenies when properly sized to that specific size of dog arent big enough to choke the dog unless they scarf the s*** down.

Did you read the article? The problem isn't the greenie being lodged in his throat and choking it to death, it is from pieces not being chewed up all the way and sitting in the intestines thus not breaking down and causing problems.

exactly, it has nothing to do w/ the size of what was choked down. Its more the fact that when the dog eats it, it can basically sit in the intestines & doesnt break down. It was described as a "Foamy green mass" when it was removed from one dog....

What I was trying to say is that anything can be a potential danger for dogs if they just gulp it up and swallow it. I didnt read the article, I worked at petco a couple years ago and I remember all the same type of hype when they first came out. If you read the article it happens to agree with what I've said.....when properly sized there isnt a problem. Unless your dog is retarded and just sucks it down.

Greenies are very much recommended, they are great for the dogs teeth. We used to sell shitloads of them....so out of shitloads of greenies being sold....only 13 retarded dogs got ahold of one and swallowed them. I would recommend to keep giving them to your dog, as long as they know how to chew. No reason to take away a treat from a dog because of negative hype, of course IMHO that is. (thumb)

well I will still give them to my dog. I dont even use the Greenie brand I use a different "natural" brand. And I only give them to my dog about once a month so its not going to hurt.

I got 4 crazy ass dogs, and had 2 since puppies. And the 2 we had as puppies have eaten full bags of Hershey's kisses, paper, stuffed toy stuffing, rotten chicken wing and ribs bones from the trash, tennis balls, shoes, twigs, showlaces, 1/2 of 2 remote controles, including 1 battery, and an assortment of other stuff they found. they made it ok. The only thing they have ever had a problem with was not the greenies we gave them, but the damn rawhide bones. One of my dogs chokes on them once a year, but she will just hack it up and be fine with it.

As with any treats, you just gotta be careful with them, and be there when they are eating them.

LOL I hope you're not planning on bringing them to any meets....I dont want to lose a tire hehehe

No, not taking any of them to meets. They are not on leashes but to go to the vet and dog park. One would puke during the road trip, one would be pissed off that he is on a leash, one would have stomach issues during the trip, one will run away as soon as she gets a chance, and they will all knock people over by jumping on them.

But they are really good at the house, though. Really, they are!
