Does your MSP Clunk?

Does your sway bar clunk?
Does it wallow to and fro?
Can you tie it in a knot?
Can you tie it in a bow?
Can you throw it over your shoulder, like a continental soldier?
Does your swaaaaay baaaaaar cluuuuuuuunk?
:D

Just wanted to start page 5.

My intention is to not insult people....nothing near that, but I have spent much time trying to get certain people, not all, to just simply go to their dealers and complain, and for some reason, they are all in the US and never help. Again, some on this board, and outside of it.

I have been really impressed with the response, and effort from some people on this board in the last few months, and yes they are in the US, and I think with everyone bitchiing about this we'll get something done.

It's just the people that are sitting around, keeping their mouths shut, and waiting for everyone else to make an effort does disappointment me some. To those that have helped.... THANK YOU.

To those sitting around, you are the reason why Mazda thinks this is not that big of a problem, you need to get out there and do something.

I never took offense to your comment whatsoever. I agree with you. There have been occassions where I have been impressed as well.

Jonnymiata threw someone in his trunk and made them listen for the sound. THAT IS GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND, and is awesome!

When I was getting off the phone with the service manager he asked if it is ok to keep my car over the weekend so they can look at more on Monday and I replied "absolutely, if you can find the problem and it helps avoid future frustrations for people then keep it as long as you need."

GO TEAM! :D

I believe I heard mine clunk this morning. Definately going to investigate.

driving around with someone in the trunk - Priceless

Unfortunately it wasn't anyone from Mazda

If I get a MAzda rep or Mechanic in my trunk I don't think I'd let him out until he swore on his life that he'd fix the damn noise :)

One way or another we need to get this sorted. It might take MP3 and MSP owners collaborating and bringing it to Mazda's, State government and any other relevants body attention. Newf, have MP3 owners tried to do anything like this? Are there any lawyers on this board or do any of you have relatives who can help draft a letter, help us document the complaint and know how to get some sort of resolution. Certainly we need to lean on MNAO since I believe the canadian operation is merely marketing/distribution.

Any thoughts?

And YES, it seems like it could be temperature and/or road condition related. Not just canada but colder areas of the US too.

I believe the canadian operation is merely marketing/distribution

I agree with that as they seem to not have a f'n clue about the cars themselves

There was a lawyer on here somewhere, I can't remember his name.... maybe's he's still here.

A close friend of mine had an unrelated problem with his Ford Mustang Convertible, His roof leaked. And no matter how many times the dealer looked at it and "fixed it", it still leaked. Fortunately he had each visit documented with the exact complaint. 4 trips to the dealer later, he filed under the Lemon Law Act and Ford just gave him a brand new car. It may take an action like this for Mazda to notice, because the exchange has to come directly from the manufacturer not the local dealer. Food for thought.

Just got a call from my dealer. They replaced the bushings and apparently they come from the manuf. dry. There was no damage to the bushing. With the new ones in, they're not clunking now but who knows how long that'll last.

What is the name of the Dealer that replaced them? If the dealer I take mine to gets ignorant I might have them call another dealer that has seen the problem. Esp since the nearest dealer to me is 150+ miles away.

jroof

There was no damage to the old bushing or the ones they replaced them with?? And yeah, which dealer,?

Wellesely Mazda on Rt. 9 (781-235-6000, I dealt with Mike and Andy, who is the shop foreman). The tech said there was no visible damage to the original bushings, and could probably have reused them but since he'd already ordered the new parts.... They gave me absolutely no hassle. Mazda corp. knows about it. I told him a little about the history, he'd seen the TSB and the Mazda Tech line knew of it too. Unfortunately, the only recommended course of action is to replace the bushings and lube them up with silicone. He sounded as though he was washing his hands of the issue and was confident that this would be a premanant fix but I have strong doubts. We'll see and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

jroof, that's the same attitude and reponse I always get. And there usually isn't any real noticable damage to the bushings. Why? Because they don't fall apart, they just don't fit. They are a design flaw, wrong size, wrong shape, that's why they fail.

If that's all that it is, wrong size, wrong fit, shouldn't it be relatively easy to fix? Have you tried aftermarket parts with different sizes to fix the problem? I can't imagine that you haven't but I figured I might as well ask. These guys were nice about it and since I'm the only one to get the MSP from this dealership so far, they know me so hopefully they'll stay on my side through this whole thing (assuming, of couse, that it continues to be a problem).

in the mp3 forum, this has all been discussed before. Take a look and you'll see that I'm in talks with Racing Beat, and trying to get them to fabricate a proper fitting bushing, perhaps urethane. They recieved a sample bushing from myself, an 3 week old one that didn't work. As to what they are going to do at this point I don't know, but they do contact me from time to time with updates and questions

Once I have news, I'll share it.

newf it has to do with weather!!! i'm in NJ in i only hear people from northern USA complaining. why doesn't any one ask Terry or SMP300 or Linux?

it the fact that they probally made the bushing to big, it rubber to in extreme cold it will fail and plus, and THIS IS THE BIGGEST THING I HAVE NOTICED is when i talk to racing beat about buying that "sway bar bushing bracket" that was on the proto-type but wasn't included on the production MP3, he first said you should have that bracket. when i explained to we didn't have it and told him the webpage from racing beat to look at to see what i'm talking about the first words that came out of this guys mouth was, and i quoute, "Why did they put the sway bar bushings so far into the car".

then he went on to tell me they bushing should be farther out toward the wheels.

so what i get from him was that placing the bushings so far in toward the center of the car put way more pressure and stress on the bushings then what orginally desgined for.

and yes i begged the guy at racing beat to sell me that braket. i told him i didn't care how much it cost but he told me they wouldn't.

so Newf since you have gotten really go with racing beat and they are sympathic towards you, you should bring up the topic about that braket and see what they say about it! maybe that is the fix. maybe not but worth a try!

by the way the webpage for that braket is
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRprotege.htm

actually , no I won't.. I want them to come back to me with a reason first. Then we'll compare stories, and I'll mention yours

I'm not giving nobody room for an easy excuse or explanation this time.

Right now, my wore out bushings have been passed along to the Head engineer that was also involved with the MP3/MSP.

Clunk master 2000 Jeep

Man , after driving a Jeep Cherokee for 6 Months( the most clunkity clunking vehicle on the road) these little minin clunks don't bother me a bit. I am at clunking peace with this car.

disclaimer - I will have fixed under warranty.

We'll I'm going to pick my car up tonight, but I'm afraid they didn't make much progress with the clunk. They told me it is gone right now. I asked what they did to resolve the problem and he replied that they were not sure. He said they removed everything that was aftermarket concerning the rear suspension and made sure everything was torqued to spec. He said everything was to spec and they greased the bushings. I know greasing the bushings is just a temp fix so I'm sure I'll be back there with a clunking car in the future. :(
