MS3 - sport
Hello everyone.

I know there are several posts on black smoke from the exhaust, but I wanted to do a poll to get a different look at the data. I didn't see anything like this, so I hope you don't mind participating. Please be as honest as possible, and if you don't know... Say so.

100% of MS3's and MS6's without aftermarket ems run rich as hell which causes the insane amount of carbon.

you should have an option for "inbetween WOT shifts"

Never thought of that because I always lift when I clutch in... It only takes a fraction of a second under hard acceleration, so there is no cessation of smoke. Therefore, if it does it during the hard acceleration (clutch engaged), you can assume that WOT would cause the smoke as well.

add in at startup as well, and allow the option of choosing more than one, cause i get it driving real hard and at startup.

It's normal. I run Sea Foam through the gas tank once a month and I'm going to run it through the intake manifold every 12,000 miles, which is about twice a year for me.

I see smoke only at idle when the engine is cold.

I thought so. I know any turbo left at idle or idling on cold mornings smoke more than NA cars but it should be a white smoke, not black.

no just initial startup i get a nice little puff of black smoke, idk why, idk if its common or not, but i do get it, not EVERY time but you know, often.. just a little puff and thats it.. haha i notice it when i start my car with the auto start so i see it as i walk up to it.

Only during very hard accel. So does my turbo eclipse, and so did my cousins turbo integra, and my friends SRT4, and every turbo car anyone I've known has ever owned. Well, except that one turbo daytona. That one emitted blue smoke (lol).

This is my first turbo car (I have had 6 cars in my life--- 3 NA, 2 S/C, 1 Turbo)..... I think people behind me (and they are almost always behind!) must think my car is damaged....

That's because those crafy mazda engineers really made a diesel that runs on gasoline. That's why there's lots of ticking at idle too!!!

i've only really noticed it on WOT 4th gear pulls down the highway, say starting around 3k rpms and on. i figure it's that extra fuel kinda flushing the carbon away while it semi-lugs before really pulling hard

i also don't notice anymore smoke now that im 5% tinted all around :)
