does your aftermarket exhaust make mis-fire sounds?

does it? mine does when i downshift from 3rd to 2nd without rev matching and just letting the clutch up slowly... there are a few popping like sounds... kinda cool i think.

Guys, it's not a backfire, it's called back popping. It's close to the same thing. Back popping is caused by the sudden pressure changes in the exhaust, like when you downshift. Not really harming anything.

mine does that like crazy, mind you i have removed the first cat and have a full catback with no resonator with N1

yeah, thats not hurting nothing, and it's a good sound, I loved it on my P5 when I had my Catback....I can't wait till I can afford to get one for my speed. Some people actually only want an exhaust just for the back popping, cause they hear it on the Rally cars, and SCCA cars and stuff. Also, some people will run a really high octane, and add a spark plug in the tip of their exhaust, to produce the little Flame, or pop of fire you may see sometimes.....thats a sure fire way to foul a plug(in the engine) due to the high octane...no pun intended.lol

Yeah, I have had the Jic and Racing Beat and the both do it on down shift. It is also caused by overly rich A/F ratio.

mmmm, exhaust popping

if you don't like it, coast when you come to a stop instead of engine braking. Brakes are much cheaper to replace than a clutch is.

i remember when i had my gt probe i had ran a straight pipe on that and evey timre i down shifted it would pop really loud and kick about a 2 foot flame out the back end, it would kick the flame out between upshifts as well....gotta love a hopped up j-spec engine

mine goes BOOM sometimes and scares the s*** out of little kids. then again, so does my open dump tube and incredibly loud BOV.

Ya, I love that sound too. I have 2.5" exhaust on an NA engine, so it quite pronounced in my car. It's from the pressure changes between cylinders.
