Does Walk Away Lock turn on alarm?

Factory motion sensitive car alarms are extremely rare in the US. It's been years since I've seen one. Thank god.

I have a 2018 GT with the premium package (USA version), i picked up the last this past Friday, 3/30 and have about 60 miles and i'm trying to figure this out as its important to understand how this works so i can understand it and use it properly.

Nothing is blocking the sensor, i just reached in and waved my hand in front of it.

Cool! I bought mine two days before you, same model and all. =D. Except I now have 500 miles because we did a weekend road trip.

I will give mine a try when I get home in a couple hours and report back.

1. Why cant you roll down the windows in accessory mode? I had to start the engine to roll the window down, annoying...

That's common in many vehicles, every one I've ever had with power windows.
I agree, it's very annoying. But you don't have to start the engine, just activate the ignition.

2. the icon is the same as the link above, its the lock/car combo, i couldn't see the full icon at the angle when i first tried it.

3. i had the window rolled down, shut the open door, beeped, tossed the key about 6 feet again and another beep (auto walk away). the car/lock Icon blinking the whole time.

4. reached in and unlocked the door lock button then opened the door, no alarm or anything.

5. shut the door and waved hand in front of the sensors, again using a USA car, and no alarm or noise.


Next i tried the same thing but pushing the lock on the key fob 2 times making the horn go off and tossing it in grass. reached in and opened the door again through the window, no alarm.

I'm not sure how "smart" this advanced keyless system is, unless the alarm goes off with only a trying to start the ignition without the key, i can see a broken window and person reaching it and it not making any noise.

Any alarm won't detect someone sticking a hand through an open window unless you have motion detection sensors.

Also you can open and close the windows in accessory mode or the last mode before starting the vehicle. AFAIK nothing has changed from previous models in that regard.

Probably zero. Consider this: why would an alarm affect insurance? Auto insurance doesn't cover the theft of contents of the car (your home or renter's might). If the window is broken and the alarm goes off - window is still broken.

It still has an immobilizer - that might make a difference to your insurance company because that makes it harder to steal the car. Who knows, maybe there is an alarm if someone tries to hotwire it.

Only certain countries have alarms as standard feature.

Alarm noise is now pretty much useless. Made a difference in the 1980's but not anymore.

Good point - I heard one go off yesterday in a parking lot and not a single person flinched. Nobody looks around, everyone just assumes it went off by accident.

Deterrent to what? There were studies done in the 90s that showed little impact on crime but big impact on nuisance. NYC had hearings on them because it was useless alarms all day and night.

Still a deterrent... Most people who own a homes have a home alarm hooked up to the local police or a dispatch service.

My 2013 did have a factory alarm but starting in 2014 and all subsequent model years Mazda got rid of the burglar alarm as a cost saving

That's why over here, you now rarely here car alarms going off.

Most theft prevention is built around immobilisers and making it harder to access vehicles (of course breaking a window negates that)

Some people do but my actual point is when an alarm sounds off, it's coming from a general area/direction and people may/will look, not see the actual event and then ignore it and look away.

Generally speaking they won't go and investigate
