Does USB charge iPhone??

Brand new 2013 CX-5 owner. It seems that the USB port poorly charges my iPhone. The charging icon comes on but power either stays the same or decreases. Anyone else see this?

There have been some other threads where someone actually measured the USB output. Pretty sure it was in this forum and it was good enough to charge an Iphone.
About once a week I charge mine up on the commute home and it goes up 30 or so % (I have mine set so show the battery amount in #)

it charges a phone at 500mA - not a quick charge, but it will keep most phones from dying. A high speed charger is always better and worth the $10-15.
