2003 Protege LX
I need to know if some Protege5 springs, i am about to buy, will fit the protege i have.

i am gonna buy them tomorow so please lemme know

But I think the rear spring rates are higher to compensate for the weight of the P5 hatch though, so it'll look a bit raked. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's what I've read before.

you cant buy springs specific for the P5, or springs specific for the sedan.

I was thinking of Eibach, there's seperate kits for the sedan and a kit for the protege 5, they have slightly different rear spring rates. It looks like they're pretty much all the same spring rate for ones that make the distinction between the 5 and the sedan, just a difference in the drop, so yeah no worry in using protege5 springs. Thanks for setting me straight.

i put the MSP springs on my LX. The MSP, ES and p5 struts have the same base in the rear. The LX and DX are lower. When i put the spring on theres was almost 3/4" gap between the top seat and the spring. with the weight of the car on it, it sat in the seat but on bumps and drops it would bounce around.

so if you have an ES, there will be no problem..DX or LX I'd look more into it

i stand corrected on the springs.

tha mazdaspeed came with lowering springs and tokico blues. the 3/4 inch gap was likely due to the different height of the spring. Also, the perch on the strut that the spring sits on may be in a different location between OEM struts and the tokico's.

I have the Tein SS. the springs are always under some tension. one of my friends has illuminas with eibach, and the springs are always under tension. another friend is installing the KW set soon. if you have a 3/4" gap, ( no tension), eventually something will break. i'd consider swapping out the OEM struts ASAP iif i were you.
