Does emanage for N/A need 02 voltage fix?

I understand this is needed for some applications to fix the 02 voltage at WOT. Would I need it if I am running the emanage for my N/A p5? If so, why?

Using emanage mainly for timing control, but if adjusting the fuel curve will get me a few extra HP's then why not.

Thanks,

Chuck

With N/A applications, you are usually leaning out the fuel mixture, so I am not sure that you would need it.

yea I was thinkin along those lines as well..the 02 fixes are mainly when you want to be adding fuel and you dont want the ECU to realize it and start pulling the fuel you just added..leaning out the mixture probably wont give you trouble, since the magnitude of fuel being pulled(for na) and the magnitude of fuel being added(for fi) are much much different...

Not yet. I do have the ECU pinouts, rotary switch settings and such. Would be nice to see some maps at some point, as I don't yet have a wideband 02 and A/F meter, but for starters I'd like to just see if I can get some timing adjustment.

That's cool. =) Keep us posted on your progress!

Oh, and welcome to the club! You're in the Mass area, and we're having a NEPOC meet on Sunday of this week, if you've got nothing better to do:

Hey, thanks, Eddie!

I'm enjoying the "new" p5, its an '03 I picked up about a month ago w/30k miles. I had just sold my '93 SE-R w/T3 ball bearing turbo, so I'm kind of missing the pull of that ride, but the style, comfort and handling of the p5 is great.

Thanks much for the invite, as it turns out we're heading up to VT for some leaf peeping. Probably will drive the Forester. Pumpkins, maple syrup, cheese and all that stuff.

Yum. =9 Sounds like a good weekend to me! Well, have fun, and like I said, keep us updated. =) Lots of people on here want a good N/A ecu option for the Protege!

Update

I got the thing wired in, at least as an ignition controller. I haven't tapped in any of the injector controller wires, b/c I don't have a wideband 02 sensor or A/F meter. Anyway, I'm definitely feeling some timing advance. :)

Question, though -- I had some trouble with the airflow instructions, it didn't seem to like what I was doing (chug, cough, die). So the mass air flow isn't yet connected to the emanage. Is that an issue for ignition control? Seems like if I upload a map to my ECU, then the ECU will read the airflow and use the map for managing timing, or does it not work that way? If the emanage itself is managing the timing then it probably isn't good that it doesn't have airflow data, right?

That seems to be the problem everyone is having, for sure! The MAF has a strange voltage setting, even at idle, which makes it unable to properly be managed by a piggyback, alas. =/ Good luck trying to get it working, though! Let us know if you have any luck.

IIRC, wasn't it Terry(SpoolinMP3) and NC_MP3 that were working on getting an emanage to work on his boosted MP3. And they got it to work off-boost, but it still had issues under boost. And I thought it involved adding a resistor somewhere to modify the signal from the MAF. You might want to search way-back and see if you can find more. I'm not at all sure of my info

i had the emanage when i was n/a back in dec of last year..

i tuned for a cuple days but it didnt make much of a difference..
its a waste of money on a n/a car unless you have a ton of mods..

I dunno, it's nice to have some timing control. I think I've got it about working now. (Fingers crossed). I need to get an A/F meter and wideband to tune fuel. In the meantime, I'm in a better position to go turbo/SC if I want to later.

Got it from a friend with harneses and software for $325, so seemed pretty reasonable, really.

Cool, definitely keep us NA guys informed. I'd be happy even if it only controlled timing.

So far so good, since I got the MAF business worked out, needs resistor between that and ground. Anyhoo, I've had it in since Saturday, added 6 degrees and 93 octane. MSD knock detector has been ordered. Much better throttle response. I'll plan to fiddle with fuel after I get a wideband O2 sensor and A/F meter.

Ya think the 6 degrees is too aggresive?

My floorboard is a mess, though I need to put humpty dumpty back together.

I wouldn't worry too much about it... I'm running 93 octane, and running an MP3 ECU , which advances the ignition to 63.5 degrees at points. =) That's awesome to see that it's working good! Hopefully, the ECU won't learn around it. Get the bad-boy on a dyno, and you should be able to tune the A/F properly, then street tune it once you have an accurate (Read: wideband) A/F meter. =)

Wow 63.5 degrees BTDC, yowza.

With the emanage of course, I've added 6 degrees on top of whatever the stock setting is, which I have no clue. Maybe I'm at 16?

My last two cars ('93 SE-R and a '94 Miata), it was just a matter of adjusting the distributor/crankangle sensor using the strobe. Of course you don't get any incremental control that way, though.

Kind of a drag to buy the pricey gas again, but I like the zippier feel w/my P5.

-Chuck

Nice. =) The max I saw with the P5 was 45 degrees of timing advance, and adding six would bring that up to 51 degrees, though the timing changes depending on load and all that, so who knows for sure. =) How many miles do you have with the emanage on, now, out of curiosity?
