Do it yourself dent removal?

I have heard a bunch of different stories and ideas on dent removal.

I have heard of heat guns, plungers, dry ice, and just taking the interior door panel and "popping" it out.

Do any of these work?

I have heard mixed opinions on the "ding king" and things like that.

What about paintless dent removal. Anybody at all know how that is done?

Thanks!

bull!

its bull crap, i used the ding king on my probe and it took off paint

I've used the dent king, and I would say its only good 90% of the dent. If you had a large dent, might as well use a $20 device to make it smaller, then take it to a Paint Less Dent removal place, and save some money since the dent is smaller now.

I had a good fist sized dent on my right front fender. If I had taken that dent to the PDR place they would have charged me $125+ on just that one dent, but I got it small enough (using the dent king) that for all the dents on my car (5 of them), cost me only $175.

I was the victom of a hit and run a couple of weeks ago. A SUV hit my car in the upper A pillar with it's mirror and made a half dollar size dent. A person saw it happen but didn't get the tag number. I had the car at the dealership a couple of days later and had them give me an estimate. They had me wait about an hour for their "paintless dent removal" specialist to show up. The guy spent about 30 minutes with 2 tools that looked like coat hangers and he popped it out from the back. He did an excellent job. You dont even notice it and I didnt have to have any paint work done. Cost me $50.

I brought this issue up a couple of months ago with a friend of mine who is an estimator for a dealership body shop. He told me that most of these things do not work and if they do work they are used incorrectly by people who do more damage which causes it to cost more than they would have paid had they not played.

pdr is using long prybars (look like screwdrivers) to roll out the dent (some people can do it well others like myself can not do it at all). as long as you got a leverage pt and right shaped prytool it can be done. Me im a body man so just dun have patience for that. as for suction cups the bigger the dent the easier they are to get out with that. heat does work on minor hail damage type dings (we bake cars when we get em in to get a few of the dents out) . me being a body man i say take it to a shop (lol) but if you find a good pdr guy they do pretty good work.

I had my car fixed due to hail damage. I had the opportunity to watch and I have to say leave it to the professionals. It is truly an artform. I can't imagine an average joe doing it.
