Sorry if this was asked before, I couldn't find an answer. I need new front brake pads. My dad says that changing the rotors is important when changing the brakes? Is this true??

Also, I only want to change the rubber wipers on the wiper blades. They cost only a few dollars at the local discount store. They have a few sizes, does anybody know the right size.

Thanks for the help.

I would say just change the pads. If you want better braking, change the stock rotor to blank brembo rotor.

19" passenger and 21" driver

You certainly don't need to change rotors every time you change pads. What you do need to do is have your rotors machined (re-surfaced) every time you do pads. If you're doing the brake job yourself, you can just carry the rotors in to most shops and many auto parts stores, and they'll machine them for you, typically for $10 or so each. While your at the shop, they can measure thickness, and let you know if it's time to replace them.

Machining the rotors every time is not necessary. If you are getting vibrations when applying the brakes or there is bad scoring then replace the rotors. The rotors are not very thick to begin with, machining will make them thinner and they cannot dissipate heat very well.

Only correct answer so far in this thread.
Period.

yup this is what I do...I take my s*** to kragen (think autozone does it too)...really im not sure why you just didnt ask the guy at the autostore...same with wiper blade...shoot they got that mini computer thing at wal mart that tells u all the sizes

I'm not a fan of machining rotors. 2 reasons:

The exponential loss in heat capacity thing due to removing tons of mass.

You now took a surface that was heat treated and compacted a bit at the factory. Had the s*** compacted out of it during normal usage (very little porosity in a used rotor). Then strip that hard layer off and expose super soft iron that is much more porous than ever before. A turned rotor might last 1/3 of the time as an OEM one (not to mention all that extra heat is kinda dangerous). This is incredibly dishonest towards the customer because you ding them up front for all the labor to turn the rotor. Then ding them again in a few thousand miles when the rotors are destroyed along with the pads. Since the rotors are now much thinner things run hotter and pad life is severely compromised.
