got wake being that ur going with a sq car i'm surprised u didn't go with the pioneer p-9

the p9 combo is a nice setup, but too pricy for what you get. i opted for the alpine iva-d300 and the pxa-h701 combo for less than the p9 combo, and i get a touch screen as well as an optical signal to the processor. the h701 has the same capabilities as the p9, but the alpine products in general have better expansion capabilities. i just picked up the tue-t151 TV tuner from alpine, which is touch control enabled. so now i can control my ipod, TV tuner, and h701 from the d300. course i'll be upgrading to the d310 in a few weeks because it has better control over the h701 and ipod. later this year, if alpine finally releases it, i'll be getting the new nav system that is supposed to be awesome(cool)

dex-p9 = $1,280
deq-p9 = $840
total = $2,120

iva-d310 = $1500
pxa-h701 = $550
kca-420i = $100
tue-t151 = $200
total = $2,350

for a difference of $230 i get a touch screen DVD player, the ipod adapter, and the TV tuner. of course i only paid about $1300 for all that(glare)

well you get more time alignment channels and a 30-band eq for each channel. I would never pay $2120 for it but I would pay $850 for a used one. I have no interest to play DVDs in my car.

there is TA for every channel on the h701. the only channel that is not 31 bands is the sub, which doesn't need to be. i don't know about the center channel, because i don't use it.

On second look, i didn't realize the PXA gave you additional eq options...I thought it was just surround sound.

Anyway, what I was getting at was that the Pioneer gives you high-mid-low-sub time alignment and equalization. The Alpine gives you front-rear-sub (not bad but not good for time alignment of a 3-way component set unless two of the speakers are in the same location). Its designed more for multimedia applications than pure audiophile stereo playback. Of course to fully utilize 8 channels of time alignment you would have to be running every speaker on a separate amplifier channel (again, pure audiophile application).

For the price, I think the Alpine CDA-9855 is a pretty good deal. It only has a 1-bit dac but the time alignment, eq, and other options are simply not available at that price from the other big names...plus you can customize the color of the display to match the red/orange P5 lighting.

the h701 gives you high-mid-low-sub as well. if it didn't, i wouldn't have bought it ;) it's just labeled as 2 sets of front outputs, but it was designed with the plan that there would be a high set of front outputs for tweeters, and a mid-low set of front outputs for mid-range/bass drivers. it was mainly setup for a bi-amped active front set of components which would still allow for full 5.1 surround. but since i use the rear channels for the mid-bass, i can't utilize surround sound. ah well, not a major deal since i don't watch DVD's in my truck. and yes, i have TA on all 8 channels.

i'd get the 9835 over the 9855. the glide touch did not impress me.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that either...but I don't think the 9835 has the display color options.
