DIY IC Spray for under $10!

Looks like mine, except I still need to snag a nozzle.
I spent about 15 minutes looking at the different ones in the Irrigation aisle & another 10 minutes discussing what I wanted with an employee. This guy was an expert on irrigation, but I didn't explain what I was doing & I don't think he had any concept of using it for automotive purposes. I bought 2 different kinds & the first one I tried was perfect. I can the bag for each of the components in case anyone wants to pick them up at Home Depot. Ironically, the description on the back of the nozzles I got almost sounded like it was made for IC sprayers, which is why I got it. :D

ha, I just went to the autoparts store and found the T fitting and hose. its pretty ghetto.

Mine isn't all that advanced...the valves are the only thing that stands out. Otherwise it's just a hose with 2 nozzles. I just really like the way that it turned out.

My wipers dont go off when I spray the fluid on the window. So if someone knew whats wrong with my car they could do it to their car. ;)

Do your wipers work at all?? If they do, then there you go there is a relay somewhere for it and an alternate path from the regular wiring for the wipers (no matter how small it is).

I made my Ic Sprayer for $3. They didn't have the right valves, they had brass ones that cost $5 a piece so I said f that. Just did it without valves. Work really good, I have one nozzle at the top of the ic and 1 towards the bottom. The misters are great.

I got me a 04 Mazda 3 stock. I live in AZ so the heat out here is pretty damn intense. I saw this mod and had to do it. I connected my direfctly up to the back windshielf pump outlet. Lucky for me, the back wiper can spit out water without wiping itself, so i didn't and don't have a problem turning it on.
But, I'm wondering when i should really do this. Should i do this for short busts (like 5 second burts every 10 seconds?) or should i be just lettting it spray and spray and spray while driving at higher speeds? I know my car is stock, and this really won't do anyithng, but I would like to keep my engine running at good temp :)

lol, your spraying your radiator? (uhm) unless you drive your car in 100 degrees plus weather and romp on it, i don't think its gonna be worth it.....

Well, right now there isn't much heat(in monsoon season), but every 2 days or so it reaches around 105F. I like to go driving during the day and I do romp on it.
I really didn't know what gains this would be, and i wasn't expecting anything. I was hoping that it would help the radiator cool down a lot faster. But, if this has no use, then please do tell. I'll justr disconnect the misters and put on a jet stream nozzle and aim it at other cars!!! :) No one ever suspects that the car next to them is shooting a stream of water onto their doors.

Per request, here are the bags of the materials that I bought at Home Depot. I don't have the bag for the valves, but it looks just like the 3 similar ones here & says 1/4" valve (has a picture of it too).

umm not sure on this one, but since the rac is much much hotter than the IC wouldnt spraying it with cold liquid cause damage?.....I would just look into getting some water wetter additive to help keep the coolant temps down.

If you live in AZ, you should be able to do the same thing as us here in FL...

Drain your radiator & coolant lines, pour in a full bottle of Water Wetter, & fill up the rest with purified/distilled water. There are many other things that can help with engine temp, but that will probably be your best bet now. You can also try to get someone to produce an intake manifold spacer (AKA phenolic spacer) for the Mazda 3.

I pulled out that foam thing & it gave me enough room to squeeze in about 8 ice cubes. I filled the rest with a 1.5 bottles of refriegerated water. Given it's not during the middle of the day, but I'm interested to see how long it stays cold & if there is any difference because of the lower temp. I'm also considering taking the bumper off again so that I can pull the resevoir out. The stupid thing has those plastic holders inside to hold the foam insert in place, but if I cut them out or something, I could easily fit an ass load of ice cubes in there. :D

Sounds great to me. So I'm guessing that i should take the misters off the car, since they really don't do anything anyway?
Also, when draining the radiator, can't you just unplug it from the bottom, and then all the fluid will leak out on its own? Or do you have to also dissconnect all the hoses and so fortyh to get all the fluid? Because my MZ3 has TONS of Fing hoses! :) Thanx Black Majic

Spraying a radiator probably isn't a great idea.

I've never drained the radiator, but I believe that there is a drain plug on the bottom. Don't just let the coolant dump out on the ground though...you should collect it into a drip pan & then dispose of it in something like milk jugs. There should also only be about 3 radiator hoses, although the coolant does pass through some other places.

Turn the car on and let the thermostat open up and then turn the car off and drain the coolant. Don't let the car run for too long. There is a drain plug/screw on the bottom tank of the radiator.
