DIY Guide: How to Add Apple CarPlay / Android Auto to Your Mazda!
Hi everyone! I’ve noticed a lot of people asking how to retrofit CarPlay or Android Auto into their Mazdas. I wanted to put together a quick guide with all the links you need to get this working.
It’s totally doable yourself and makes a huge difference to the car!
IMPORTANT FIRST STEP: Software Update
Before you touch any hardware or take your dash apart, you MUST update your Mazda Connect firmware to Version 70.00.100 or higher. If you install the new USB hub with the old software, it will not work and could cause issues.
* Get the firmware here: Mazda Firmware Update v74.00.324A (ADR) LATEST.
(Follow the instructions provided there carefully to update your system via USB first).
STEP 2: The Parts
You need the official Retrofit Kit (Hub + Cables). The part number is usually TK78-66-9U0C. This replaces the USB box in your center console or dashboard.
* Buy the kit here: New Upgrade CarPlay Android Auto USB Hub Adapter for Mazda 2 3 6 CX3 CX5 CX8 CX9 MX5 miata TK78669U0C Retrofit Kit 00008FZ34 - AliExpress 34
STEP 3: The Installation
Once your software is updated and you have the parts, you just need to swap the USB hub and route the new cables to your screen. It involves removing some trim pieces, but it’s plug-and-play.
* Watch this installation guide: Mazda CarPlay Installation Guide
Quick Summary of the Process:
* Update Firmware (Crucial!)
* Remove center console/dash trim (clips are tight, be gentle!).
* Remove the head unit (screen) to access the back plugs.
* Run the NEW cables from the screen down to where the USB hub lives.
* Swap the old USB hub for the new one.
* Put everything back together and enjoy Waze/Spotify on your screen!
Hope this helps anyone looking to modernize their Mazda! Feel free to ask if you get stuck.
This video shows the full physical installation process on a CX-5, which is very similar for most Mazda models.
