DIY Anti-Lag valve

I know alot of people dont like backyard engineering, but heres a neat way to get your turbo spooling faster for cheap.(not the WRC style)

Basically your motor sucks in air though a different intake when the car is in Vac and when it goes into boost is switched back to the normal intercooler pipe.

Its nothing crazy, just thought some might be interested if ya had $20 lying around and a large turbo that needs some spoolin. (thumb)

The WRX apparently has one of these from the factory, however it is not used by the factory ECU. Was put there for group N purposes. Could be usfull for a makeshift mod though i have never had a chance to look at a WRX myself. Anyone here know about WRXs and this valve?

Doesn't this destroy your exhaust manifold because it causes controlled misfires to happen in that area?

Well the dodge way just helps out with spool time, the WRC way is more complicated and can cause damage if EGTs are too high. The link eplains all this.. It would be interesting to see a anti-lag similar to the WRC setup on a big turbo MSP, but with FWD problems it wouldnt be much of a help on the launches, though I think it would be good for road course etc.

Would sorta be neat to have the stock turbo prespooled at 15psi before going WOT in 3rd out of a turn down by the old low river road..

s***, I totally thought you said that this IS the WRC style. Nevermind then, I'm gonna read up on this. =P My bad.

Edit: Just had a thought. We have MAFs, so wouldn't we run a bit lean when not in boost? Sounds like, when not in boost and the D-valve is open, we'd get a load of un-registered air. But I'm not sure how big of an effect it would actually have on the A/F ratio.

ya the maf would make things a pain. then again if you could afford to get a wrc style anti-lag sstem going, you arent exactly gonna be running the stock computer/maf. You need to retard around 30 degrees of timing on the fly and dump loads of fuel to get it spooling at idle. I dont think anyone here will actually try to make one of these, the stock turob spoools pretty fast already. just sorta neat to check out. (drive2)
