Disturbing - U.S. Military as Law Enforcement

Just like pluto said, the military is not trained to police, they are trained to kill. The military exists to fight enemies of this country. So if you send the military out on the streets that implies the public is the enemy.

Titanium you seem to think military training with local police is normal. Which in fact is not normal at all. Mixing military and police is and always will be known as marshall law.

And god forbid this ever happens don't thing for a second you will be treated as a US citizen with all your right cause to the military you will see you as the enemy.

What you and everyone else seems to fail to realize is that the Military is a policing faction in the first place. We are just better known for policing other countries. Trained to be killers? That has to be the dumbest s*** I have ever heard as far a discription for the Military. Do you think the samething about you local police? What training have I recieved in my military career makes me a trained killer? Why is not normal for my unit for the past ten years training with the local police dept.'s? We train together so that if the s*** should hit the fan we are already trained on how to work together. WE understand each others SOP's and regulations. Why is it that as soon as you see a person with a uniform on you asume that they have no heart and that they are not a real person with thoughts? Too many moives and what you hear and not enough first hand experence to make that judgement.

I'm not comfortable giving BUSH a loaded gun (aka our military to "rule" at home) so to speak. He has already shot a stray bullet through Iraq trying to convince the world about his imaginary WMD. I don't have a problem with anyone else except for Bush (throw in Chaney too), but I don't trust Bush's vision on the world. He's too much of a crusader for my taste.

That being said, if an outbreak does happen and the predicted hundreds of millions of people become infected and die... what do you propose is the solution? Do you believe the LOCAL government for each city (aka New Orleans) will be organized enough to take care of their own citizens? Ha-ha.

I don't know the solution, but our local governments need to be trained better or there needs to be something there to back up the local government in case they fail, as we have seen proof from the Katrina disaster.

It would never and could never be deployed against the people! I dont understand how you could think that. The military is controled by your elected officials. You know that, "For the people, by the People" thing.

Let's say something like a riot gets out of hand. Police are out numbered or whatever. We, in the Army National Guard train all the time in riot control and are an asset that the Governor of each state has the power to call up at anytime. This is one of the reasons why we work with the local police depts. in the area. We have been deployed in the past for disaster recovery. Our unit has equipment operator engineers and the rest of the people deployed are used for civil peace. Meaning we try and keep people from looting, move people from danger areas, and provide food. We have people from my unit in the Gulf Coast area right now providing the same thing. We have deployed to West Va. a couple of times for flooding and to the Richmond area in the past few years. <O</O

Do you think of your local police as trained killers? They have been trained on how to use deadly force. What is your big beef with the military? You speak of something you seem to know nothing about. It's like me offering my opinion on being a M.D. I have no idea what its like to be a M.D. and I have nothing in my life to compare it too. You insult my intelligent and humanity by constantly labeling me as just a "trained killer". It comes off as being closed minded and basing your opinion on no fact. This is the same definition of a racist. But you're right, all we train on is how to kill and we are all blood hungry killers. Better look out, my blood hungry ass might be in your neighborhood.

IM SEEING A TREND...

people have a general concern for if the military has instituted Marshall law the president be comes the defacto "dictator" he is the head of our military.... now.. im not imply a tru dictatorship but in theory that's what he would be... then you run the risk of all sorts of problems....

the people who have severed or serve see the good our military can do in times off need and I think that's some of the reason there is a divide amongst the views... ill be honest... if this flu s*** breaks out... even if its my home town... I want a true show of force so that "selfish ignorant people who just want t get away, don't continue the spread of a deadly disease...

im in the middle on this issue... It does lead the door open for allot of bad things.. but if the door is locked we cant get in to solve any problems...
