Disbelief in the amount of money I have spent!

BLKZoomZoom, But your numbers look like a product of your GOOD driving skill, more than the mods. But I could be misreading your mod list. Also didn't your car go BOOM!! Although there are clearly other reasons to buy the MSP, top 1/4 mi time shouldn't be one of them...Save a lot of dough and get an F-body. Now if the point is Sport sedan, great balance, great looks, than the MSP is a great car, its all about perspective.

personally I find it hard to put all that money onto the MSP, when it all will be lost. And it seems like the best route for the most power powerful is to buy used WRX, corvette, 944 turbo, Miata +turbo/sc...these options may be better if your only concern is financials. But clearly financials are not the only factor.

O.k no real point just my .2cents

Common misconception, I suck driving the MSP. My avg. 60ft. time is 2.18. My mod list is fine where it is.
I purposely blew the motor to find the limit, sort of. That motor was a trooper, lasted over 320 quarter miles passes many of which were in the 13.'s. The reason I bought the MSP is 1. to be different. 2. I was sick of driving the Rx-7. 3. I wanted a quick car that was reliable, got good gas mileage, and could take a serious amount of punishment. 4. My 71 Ply. while fast, couldn't give me what I wanted at the time,

The MSP has met and exceeded all my expectations.

Money spent on my P5 - $2500
Money Made on MSP - $50(I bought an injen then sold it for a $50 profit)that was my only mod(lol2)

Money Spent personally: ~12-13K (plus 13K to buy the car)... Money Terry spent before me ~8,000... total in... ~20,000 in MODIFICATION..

I will actually have an eventually post a full spreadsheet of all that damage... the surprising things is how much the "little" things kill.

But I agree with several ealier posts:
1) It's a hobby, I do it because I LOVE it.
2) If I had an Evo or the like I'd just be trying to do the same thing, and footing the bigger car payment
3) If I, or anyone else, ever figures out a good way to through AWD under this car... well then :) LOL...
4) It's fun!
5) I'm single/no wife (have a GF though), no kids, good job as an engineer... why not?

I hate you :) I have an 1800.00$ a month house payment, 500.00$ a month for medical insurance, 200.00$ for electricity(with r-30 insulation and ser19), 450.00$ for private High school for my daughter + 4 senoir trips, food is way up in the hundreds a month, 100.00$ water/sewer, 700.00$ for cars, 100.00$ for car insurance, 300.00$ for gas, plus all that other miscellaneous crap I don't want to even think about. 401k, entertainment exspenses, clothes, damn now I am depressed :(

Now I know why I drive a Protege :p

installed:
MPI/new turbo module ($450),
Cat and resonator delete exhaust with CEL/MIL Eliminator ($87),
Blitz SBC-ID III boost controller with built in boost gauge ($350),
AEM Wideband Air fuel Ratio gauge ($250), Injen Cold Air Intake ($175),
NGK Iridium IX ZFR6FIX-11 sparkplugs ($30 I think),
Megan Racing short-shifter with KartBoy bushing ($65.75),
AWR front-motor mount ($71),
Rotora drilled and slotted rotors ($200),
Techna-Fit SS braided brake lines ($90),
huge grounding kit (around $40),
Turbo Timer ($31.04),
Blitz Power-Meter ID I ($89.80)
J&S Ultra SafeGuard Timing Control 1&2 Channel ($400),
A few items from Lowes to make brackets and some hoses etc.

Soon to be installed:
Techna Fit SS braided clutch line ($20),
Delsing clunk fix ($183.50),
Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge (nothing),
Tom Motorsport Cat-Back Exhaust ($60)
upgraded side motor mounts ($45),
MPNick turbo upgrade($580),
MPNick custom rail set with extra injectors($285),
FMIC with HardPipes and HKS SSQ ($350),

MPNick worked intake manifold and head (TBD), anthing else MPNick may have to offer!!! and a few other secrets in the mod closest

total so far: $3786.09 or so (2thumbs)

Soon to spend another $2600 and then I will still have to at some point go forged ($2100)and get the tranny ($3000) done and spend $2500 in body work and paint... So I guess when all said and done around $13000.00 in mods, body work etc...

<FONT color=black>Man didn't realize how much I would end up spending on my car just having fun modding it. It's not about the car, money etc. It's about the fun journey it has become learning to mod my car and hangout with others who like to mod to...

Here's a rough list for me:
Terry:
Rota rims: 700
Turbo kit: 3500
550cc Fuel injectors(primary) 227cc injectors (secondary) and secondary rail: 500
Microtech: 1200
Racing Seats: 400
EGT and Boost Gauge: 200
3" Exhaust: 500
~ $7000
Me:
Evo III 16G: 600
Welded MSP LSD and hardware: 650
Exhaust Modifications: 300
Exhaust Valves: 550
Valve Job: 400
Head Work: 600
Manifolds Work: 400
Block: 500
Pistons and rods: 1200
Block Machine work: 1200 (polishing, decking, boring, aligning, checking, oil system etc)
Hardware, gaskets, etc: 1100
Profec EBC: 330
Additional Gauges: 250
Clutch Disc: 350
New DP parts: 400
Fuel system Upgrades: 600
Starter: 120
Water Pump: 70

And more I'm forgetting:
But just from above $9,620
Total of roughly 16K.. but that skips a lot of things I"ve spent otherwise (race tires, other set of rims I later sold, other replacement parts and fixes, alignments, touch up paint, lugs, brake pads, rotors, tools, etc)

Double checked.. found roughly another 500-800 I missed...

so total is like 10,400 for above.

that 1100 in gaskets and seals is the one to watch out for. I didn't budget properly for that... but that is literally just replacement gaskets, studs, and the like... (oil squirters, shims, bearings) etc... it's a lot more than you'd think!

SOO So far I've made 2231-2010= +$221!

Thats right! I've made money from modding my car!!!! I had my fun bought parts for cheap and sold them for more than I bought them for!

lol I just bought the car so I litterally dont have anything on the car ATM. Waiting to settle into my new job a little more.

The FUNNY part is I thought I was alone with the spreadsheet!!

I already have a list. It started as Ideas and what I thought I wanted. As I researched it turned into exact parts I wanted... Then I am finding places that carry it etc. and I have website (if any) info, price etc. listed. When Im ready Ill know HOW much it is, where to get it, etc.

Im moving once more in january and will hopefully have a garage this time (thats the plan) so Ill have ++ room for working on my cars. No more working under the street lamp (I just found/fixed an exhaust leak this way on my friend's car)!!

Sean

RB Catback $410
eibach springs $125 (i think)

Don't mean to put you down or anything, but either you put in a wrong number, or your math is just off:

Actually, I believe that you just forgot to add in the price of the Unichip into your equation (since it is exactly $640 short). So...the true turn out is:

Which is still not bad at considering how much money in mods you have. Did you also buy the mods that you sold, or were they on the car when you bought it?

I personally am completely stock, but not for long.

lol, yeah i guess your right man, i bought the car bone stock dude... i bought everything off the forum and **********...

how the hell did you manage all that for only 350? is it all ebay? the hks alone is about 200 new.

There's a thread on this already I think.

And I don't wanna think about how much although I know how much.

MP3 had about 13k into it... parted it out and made back about 10K of it.

Bought the MSP, and put about $3300 into so far!?!?! My God, I was typing this post thinking "Im probably right around $1500. I havent spent much at all. I've barely started modding...." $3300 !?!?!? Im in absolute shock. Not that its a lot, but I havent even begun "really" modding like i plan too! sheesh.

GT spec strut bar
ghl exhaust
unichip
Pioneer touchscreed 6.5" LCD head unit
Inifity kappa perfect 6.1 componenets in all 4 doors
Autometer Nexus Gauges: control unit, boost, water temp
AEM Wideband
lamix fog covers
DG a-pillars and arm rest cover
Optima Red Top Battery

this thread should be locked and closed. Im sad now. I need to stop, sell the msp and go buy a MS3

Hopefully late next year I'll get an MS3, that I will not mod, I like it just how it is. Well maybe some asthetics, tint, rims, and tail lights if I see any nice ones come out.
