dipstick reading

Anyone notice you get two very different readings depending on which way you put the dipstick in? If the letters (MIN/MAX) face the block I get a lower reading than if they face away from the block. Anyone know which way is the correct way?

Dipsticks are not that smart and can't read well, it's no wonder he tells you two different things.

My dipstick lied to me once, it claimed I was out of oil, but my engine still ran for a few minutes.
