Difference between a P5 and a regular Protege?

I recently bought an '02 P5 for my wife and I love the little car. I'm thinking about trading up my '91 626 for a similar car for myself. I've noticed that the regular Proteges aren't as sporting looking and have crappy looking wheel and tire packages. What other differences are there? Should I hold out for another P5 instead of the regular Protege?

Thanks!
Dave

YES!!!! P5 are teh s***. end thread.
the wagons are so much more luxury and classy to me.
and just buy some better wheels and lower it if your only plan is to drive it.
but if that will be the "family" car then get a regular protege or MSP for the "fun" car.

yup, the front bumper/big ass fog lamps makes it look much more agressive than a sedan (msp/mp3 not included).

the ES came with similar wheels as the pro5. Sedans are cooler.

Sedans are cooler.

Well mine is anyways... :p lol.

Why have two P5's? And who said your stuck with what the damn thing looks like stock? I can admit my DX "did" look like s***, but can you still say the same about it now? Didn't think so. Buy something other than another P5.

I'm more worried about performance... Does the sedan have the same engine tranny combo (5-speed only)? Also is their any difference between the suspensions and braking systems? I plan on doing some SCCA parking lot racing with whatever I get.

Thanks!

same motor, trans, ECU if your talking about the 2L. Think of it as the same car jsut different body option for the most part.

well if u get the ex version or whatever the top of the line sedan model is
then it has 4 disc brakes, if u get the dx, then it has front discs with rear drums

thats pretty much the only difference, besides the fact that u get more chicks with a p5

get an msp! the p5 may look aggressive but no turboooooooooo!

both = slow so either way performance doesn't really matter.

As far as looks go, the P5 looks much better stock than any sedan except for the MP3 and the Mazdaspeed Protege.

That being said, the MP3 and MSP (Mazdaspeed Protege) are both faster than the P5.

Get an MSP. At stock they're quick little fuckers and they look sexy as hell.

Just my .02

the ES model of the same years as the P5 have the same major features as the P5.... same wheels, same suspension (just no strut bar), same brakes, same interior (except for shift knob and steering wheel), same engine

don't let everyone here tell you the P5 is sooo much different... other than the body, it's the same car but more expensive!

P5 and ES are pretty much the same, as ^ said. But P5 looks better in my opinion, and the hatch is so, so useful when you're hauling stuff.

If you're looking to autox it at all, look for and '02-03 ES as it's the same class, HS, but a bit lighter than the P5. If you're looking for creature comforts, the P5 came with leather interior, which wasn't available on the sedans. The only possible differences in braking packages between the ES and the P5 would be the option of ABS. On the P5, ABS came with side airbags, I don't know about the ES. And both of them in '02-'03 came with 5x114.3 bolt pattern wheels.

the p5 is a couple of hundred pounds lighter with a larger stock engine than a lot of protege's. you can also get roof racks on a p5 and not on a sedan.
