Did your insurance go up for Mazda 5 upon renewal?

Mazda 5 GT 5 spd
I got renewal papers and premium for my Mazda 5 went up almost 6%. Though I'm not sure if it's related to Mazda 5 insurance rating or usual greed by insurance company.

Just called my insurance company and they said the increase was due the rating for Mazda 5. They couldn't say what specific factor was increased (theft or number of accidents etc.)

Im not in canadaland, but
my insurance has gone nowhere but down (75.15 per month for 2 2006 mazda5's) ($450 per year per 5)

We definitely got ripped off here in Canada.
1900 per year with 1K deductible and no tickets or any violations.

Checked Insurance rates before I bought.

Yearly rate went up 6% but that is actually skewed a bit because I replaced a 10 year old car with a new Mazda 5. In my mind, my rate actually went down.

The Mazda5 was actually higher than a new Minivan (perhaps the lowest type of vehicles to insure....) and less than a Toyota Matrix or Rav4.

My friend got a Lexus RX350 the same day we got our 5, and we have the same insurance company, even the same agent. And they are paying less for their Lexus than my Mazda 5 (about $CDN 300/year difference)....

BTW, they also have one major accident a few years ago and I have none... called up my agent and she said Mazda 5 is in a higher risk group than 350, and told us we should talk to her before making a purchase decision .....

But anyway, the cost of gas evens it out in about 2 months I think ;-)

If I were you I'd look about switching insurance companies. I compared quite a few car insurance rates and the Mazda5 was relatively low compared to most SUVs and many other cars. Your insurance company might be mistaking the Mazda5 with the Mazda Mx5 which is very HIGH to insure.

When I talked to my insurance agent, he made the same mistake when he looked on his computer. I had to tell him "No, it's not a Mazda MX5, it's a Mazda5". Find a company that classifies it as a Minivan or a Wagon.

Randyl, would you mind letting me know what you are paying? I'm also in Markham (Leslie/Hwy 7) area and I'm paying just under 1600. This is with Johnson and includes some sort of discount for having my house with them as well as an alumni discount(not that I think I get anything because of this).

Thanks.

GD

What does your registration say? Mine says wagon, that's why the insurance is so low.... I agree, you should check other insurance company's.......

I pay about $1440 per year in BC. 3 million liability, $200 comprehensive deductible, $300 collision deductible, no accidents, no tickets that count (have to have more than 2 a year), classified as a wagon. We have government controlled insurance which we all purport to hate, until we hear what other people pay, then it's not so bad.

You should shop around and see what you can get elsewhere.

You definitely should shop around PolarBear. We are in Ontario as well and our annual premium before tax for the 2008 GT is about $1,300. Granted the car is registered under my wife's name since she is the primary driver and I have a corporate insurance policy, the difference shouldn't be that big ... unless you are a lot younger than us :)

Would you mind to share insurance company name you are with?
We're with Bel-Air. I've checked TD insurance, RBC, ING, PC Insurance.
All of them were giving me quotes even more.

No, we're not that young ;-)

Check with Statefarm so far theyre the cheapest when I shopped around for my insurance before I bought the 5

agent is Jane Cameron
(905) 619-0611

I'm with ING and paying about $1600/yr (collision+liability, 1000 deductable I think, that's with all the discount from the house, two cars, etc). I'm 38 with no ticket/accident in the last 8 years (actually only have had one ticket in all my driving experience).

That's the lowest I can find, I did shop around so I went with them. Statefarm is cheaper if they take you, and for some reason they didn't like me ;-(

I'm with the Co-operators, whose underwriter is COSECO. Mine is a group plan though, $1 mil liability, $500 deductible (collision & upset).

On thing to keep in mind.

If you are replacing an older vehicle (esp one that is 5+ years old), your insurance rates are bound to go up.

Remember, it costs more to insure a NEW model than and old car.

My insurance went up $300 year with State Farm for my 2008 M5 GS. Last car was a 2001 Corolla, standard. But I'm still under a $1000 Cdn a year. but with a $500 deductible.

Our insurance went down from a T&C I would bet its just a increase across the board and maybe a little higher because mazda5 parts may cost a little more. I have a really good policy....06 mazda5 07 legacy and a 96 dakota. Fullcoverage on both cars , liability on the truck and my homeowners in one policy is just over 2k. being a married, older, homeowner with clean record is a good thing.
