My friend got a Lexus RX350 the same day we got our 5, and we have the same insurance company, even the same agent. And they are paying less for their Lexus than my Mazda 5 (about $CDN 300/year difference)....
BTW, they also have one major accident a few years ago and I have none... called up my agent and she said Mazda 5 is in a higher risk group than 350, and told us we should talk to her before making a purchase decision .....
But anyway, the cost of gas evens it out in about 2 months I think ;-)

If I were you I'd look about switching insurance companies. I compared quite a few car insurance rates and the Mazda5 was relatively low compared to most SUVs and many other cars. Your insurance company might be mistaking the Mazda5 with the Mazda Mx5 which is very HIGH to insure.
When I talked to my insurance agent, he made the same mistake when he looked on his computer. I had to tell him "No, it's not a Mazda MX5, it's a Mazda5". Find a company that classifies it as a Minivan or a Wagon.
You definitely should shop around PolarBear. We are in Ontario as well and our annual premium before tax for the 2008 GT is about $1,300. Granted the car is registered under my wife's name since she is the primary driver and I have a corporate insurance policy, the difference shouldn't be that big ... unless you are a lot younger than us![]()
Would you mind to share insurance company name you are with?
We're with Bel-Air. I've checked TD insurance, RBC, ING, PC Insurance.
All of them were giving me quotes even more.
No, we're not that young ;-)
