DG Motorsports Hood *PICS*

Hey everybody, I just got back from DG Motorsports in Oceanside, CA. First off, they had the best customer service! Everyone I talked to was nice and very willing to answer my questions from when I called to when I showed up. The quality of the hood is pretty amazing, the weave of the carbon fiber looks much nicer than the Fiber Images hood and is on par with JDM Spoon hoods. The underside of the hood is fully finished and looks as beautiful as the top and the edges are smooth, rounded and align perfectly with the fenders. Truly this hood fits as perfect as stock. I can get you guys some closeups of the weave and underside if you'd like, just ask. And no, I don't work for or am affiliated with DG Motorsports in any way, I'm just extremely happy with their product ans service. Check out www.DGmotorsports.com for more info.

The hood retails for $795 but they are running a special on it, give them a call and see what they can do for you. The chin spoiler is a JDM piece by a company called "AutoExe" they are not avalible in the United States but every once in awhile someone like Rishie will import a couple of em. If you want to wait a few weeks DG motorsports will have a carbon fiber version avalible too.

If I'm spending that much money, I'd expect the company to have excellent customer service.:D The hood looks flawless in the pics. No wavyness or hazing from what I can see. All you need now is a 1/2-3/4 inch drop and smoked out side markers.

Wow

Thats a jaw dropper! i am still in aw of how good that looks. I want one! lol ummmm i have to ask for the under hood pics and the close ups of the weave. Thanks alot and looks great man,

Yup, the eyelids are the DG Motorsports ones, they're listed for $60 on their site. Here's some pics of the underside and the weave closer up as promised...see how the underside looks just like stock? This is what you want to look for in a carbon fiber hood, this is what makes it strong and not fly up and smash your windshield while driving on the freeway. Also, if you look closely at the area around the hood latch, you can see into the hood and see that the underside is also carbon fiber....this tells you that the entire top layer is made of carbon fiber...some of the cheaper hoods will have a top layer made of fiberglass with just one sheet of carbon fiber layed over it for looks, this does not make for a strong hood, you need multiple layers for that.

Here's a pic of the underside of the Fiber Images hood, you can see that the entire middle section has been gutted out and does NOT have the fiberglass underskeleton, this makes for a lighter hood but definitly not as stong.

Slight correction, I remember seeing the Fiber Images hood being put through hefty torture tests on their website, so I definately wouldn't call them weaker when it comes to strength. What keeps your hood from flying up and smacking you windshield is your hood latch. Having hood pins will give you the added security of keeping your hood down at high speeds and locking hood pins will keep theives out of your engine bay. ;)

This is a pic of an ITR fitted with a Fiber Images hood. This car was in a roll over accident. So I think it's safe to say that it is pretty strong. :)

No, don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing the fiber images hood, they also make great CF hoods, I was just using it as an example for the gutted underside which I feel diminishes the structual integrity of the hood...I may be wrong...

I just went to the website and i noticed most of the hoods say "regular price $795 and sale price $595", but i cannot find the protege hood listed, you think $595 is what i could expect to pay for it?

Honestly, I think you can't lose with either of those companies. Both of them are known for having excellent quality and strength. I personally would go for the Fiber Images hood if they were to have them ready to deliver. But seeing as how they don't seen to have they're hoods ready, then I say go for the DG hood which is just as good, I just wonder if they can remove they're logo off of the front of the hood. DG's price is right where it should be for the quality which is awesome.

The protege hood IS in fact on their website and is on sale right now for $695. The logo is not removable since the decal is under the epoxy coating and gel coat, they make all of their hoods this way, I'm sure you can ask them to make you one without the logo but then you'd have to wait for them to lay it up and finish it before you can get it. Personally, I think the logo is so small that it doesn't bother me at all, beside I don't mind giving such a great company some free advertisement.

I know this might sound stupid, but when I order a CF hood is it the same thing as a Protege hood, like should I ask for an MP3 hood or a Protege hood? Thanks!!!

I understand that it is a protege....But i just want to make sure that I dont need to just ask for a MP3 hood for the mounting brackets or anything. The local guy here I am trying to get the hood from said that no one has the MP3 Carbon Fiber hood, so just double checking. Thanks

The 2001 and up Protege, Protege 5, and MP3 all share the same hoods so just ask for a 2001+ protege hood and you'll be fine.
