Depreciation on 2013 CX-5

2013 Mazda CX5 GT
I'm shopping for a 2014 CX-5 GT AWD with Tech to replace my same version 2013 with 30k miles. I've been working the trade value with 3 dealers and wonder what folks here thought a fair depreciation amount is? It's looking like the best trade value I got was $24,800 giving an approximate depreciation from sales price of about $6500. I also had a trade offer of $24k and $22.5k. Since I got the car May 1st, 2013 we're talking a length of time of 1 1/2 years. Seems like I should get a tad more for my well kept car...

According to NADA Guides, the clean trade in value is $24,850 with 30,000 miles. You probably wont get a better deal than that as the retail value is $27,200

Sounds about what's expected (trade-in after only 18 months), averaging about 20K miles/year (significantly over the typical average of 15K miles).

Thanks for the replies. The discount off of sticker plays a large role as well. There are 2 cars I'm interested in. They're both GT AWD with Tech. One is $32,245. It's got All Weather Mats, Wheel Locks, Cargo Cover, Rear bumper Guard. The trade is set at $24k and the discount is $1120 and also there is the $500 Loyalty Rebate. I cannot get that deal any better.

The 2nd car is MSRP $32,315. CX-5 GT AWD Tech with Remote Engine Start. It's a deal for a car in another state so the Sales Manager won't quote any specific numbers but has agreed to a minimum trade of $24,800 (maximum of $25,500 based on inspection) for my '13 CX-5 with 30k and only a $200 discount with a potential to be more when I show up in person. Also the $500 loyalty Rebate will be applied as well.

I prefer the 2nd car because I like the idea of Remote Engine Start since I live in a cold climate. Plus in regards to the 1st car I already have All Weather Mats from Weather Tech and hate to buy them twice. Plus the 2nd dealer will let me transfer my wheel locks from my trade car which is kind of cool. Plus I can transfer the All Weather Mats.

Basically all Mazda Accessories can be bought later for the same price as when they're included on the car in the beginning. But Remote Engine Start cannot. Dealers around here can't add it after the fact. They claim they have too much liability. They farm it out to after market installers.

The 2nd dealer from another state is unknown to me and is likely to be a stressful encounter since if I travel all the way there I'll be leaning towards getting it. But I know my numbers well and the way that state does it's numbers. I need to push this dealer to the absolute limit to make getting rid of my 2013 CX-5 justified. The salesperson says I'm likely to get the best deal on Black Friday based on the dealership's history.

Any advice on beating them up?

I had a Mazda remote start installed on my '13GT. When I bought the '14GT they transferred the remote start to that car. They're BS'ing you if they're saying they can't add it. If you have an after market installed, you will more than likely have to give up one of your key fobs (who wants a $32,000 car with one KEY?). Who knows, if you have electrical problems after, if the warranty will cover it with AFTER MARKET parts.

GOOD LUCK beating them up!... They know if you don't buy it, someone else will.

BTW, remote start is overrated. I have not missed it on either of my cars.

When my wife gets out of work and the car is covered with a half an inch of ice. I guess you're right...Why would she want a remote start, to use, ten minutes before she gets to the car? Or when it's 100 degrees out, why wouldn't she want to sit on HOT leather seats, when they can be cool in five minutes?.....Maybe you're right!...I'm gonna have it taken out!

First world problems... :)

With the temperature this morning at -10C (14F), -17C (1.4F) with the wind chill, nice to warm the car up before getting in. The CX-5 is our first car with remote start and it will be for future car for sure.

I've asked dealers right to their face, "Can you add OEM remote engine start to the car I'm interested in?". "I'm willing to pay for it". In one case the dealer sighted liability issues. In the other case the dealer said, "It's not cost conducive for us to do it".

So if they're Bsing me I can't figure out why they would not want to take my money...

I've never had remote engine start but I picture it like the keyless entry that's part of the Tech package. You're standing at the side of your car with grocery bags in each hand and you realize the key fob is deep in your pocket. Oh yeh I can simply push the black button by the door handle to open it. Very convenient.

Every night I work till 8pm. My car is parked outside in the elements. I start it from inside my office and then when I get to it I see ice melted off windows and then I get inside and feel seats warm and car warm.

Accessories I don't get are the crazy adaptive headlights. I notice them working but I don't get the advantage. I also don't get rear parking sensors. With a back up camera I can do the same thing, judge distance. However anything in the name of safety is OK with me.

It may not be cost effective for them.....But you're a CUSTOMER, spending lot-so-money! I don't get the liability part, installing a MAZDA accessory. I would go to the service dept. and ask them how much it cost to install a MAZDA remote start...I'll bet they give you a price....OR maybe they don't have a qualified tech working there.
The Mazda service tech I spoke to (I used to work there), said that they had several after market ones come in, with all the gauges and dash lights not working.....NOT covered under warranty.

The OEM one is dead simple to install yourself if you read the guide on this forum. If you have a model with a security system you basically just plug it in. If you don't, you just need to wire up a hood switch as well. Seems like it would be REALLY easy for a dealer to do this and make you pay $100/hr to do so.

Took me about 30 min to install the OEM remote start and program everything, longer if you have to install the hood switch but it's doable and I'm not a car tech. Just go to this website http://www.parkmazdaoemparts.com and buy the part if the dealer price is high and do it yourself.

When you get the part, it come with instructions. Also see under the How to section in the forum where TreyP did a great step by step with pictures instructions.
