Decided on a 5....now the wait

So I was deciding between a Mazda5 and a Scion Xb. Probably not cross shopped too much. I wanted something with style, gas mileage, safe and inexpensive. I test drove both and found the 5 more satisfying. I am coming out of a 2005 Acura TSX lease. I am waaaaay under miles on my lease and am hoping to get close to even money on it. I refuse to roll in negative equity...especially on a lease. I find it odd how few 5's there are on dealer lots. I live in the Dallas area. The dealer I test drove at had 1. I want a Black on Black Grand Touring model. Only one to be found and it's in Oklahoma City. He said it would be $350 to transport it down here. I then reminded him I work for a major airline and can fly there for free. The smile on his face was priceless.

Ha, awesome w/the airline thing :) Coming from the TSX, you shouldn't be disappointed, the 5 is a solid car... mine has almost 20k miles on it and it's still tight, no rattles or anything. Style it has, the new xB's I actually like with the new curves, though too. Gas mileage varies... but with a 5AT you'll probably see mid to upper 20's. This is one turn off I have with the new xB's, they upped from a 1.5L to a 2.4L for the new gen... the old 1.5's could get 40mpg ((boom07)). Safety is covered in another live thread right now... no US crash tests, but it excelled in European and Japanese tests (10 airbags, nuff said). And price is exceptional, as I'm sure you found, for what you're getting.

Well good luck with your transaction, and naturally, you're required to post pics at some point ;)

i almost bought xB but we got Mz5 for following reasons.

1. Bigger Cargo Area (almost twice much than xb)
2. Seating for 6 (family of 3 , soon to be 4)
3. Standard options (base xb is cheaper but Mazda5 had way more standard options)
4. finally, special APR from Mazda... and good deals from local dealer..sealed the decision.

Even money on a lease shake it hard

mine is a Black Grand Touring. you will not be disappointed! i plan on tinting it and perhaps getting some black/black with polished lip wheels to completely stealth mine out. just because its a microvan doesn't mean it has to be dull :)

I also checked out the new xB. It really wasn't much bigger inside than our Honda Fit, and as we are ALSO a family of 3, soon to be 4; we wanted something with more seats and room.

The xB's c-piller causes a terrible blind-spot. Not something I enjoy dealing with.

The 2.3l in the 5 feels smoother than the 2.4 in the xB as well...and sounds better to boot.

black on black GT here. across three dealers in my area there were probably 15 5's but only one was black on black GT. we snagged it up. I liked the tan interior too but the wife wanted the black. can't blame her. it looks sharp.

good luck with the process

I "totally" agree on engine sound Xb engine sound bit more "noisy" than Mz5

Compare to xB Mazda 5's engine is Lexus..(cabpatch)
