Decent looking double DIN's

I have an 02 P5 and am looking to upgrade the deck and speakers. There doesn't seem to be alot of choice out there when it comes to 2X DIN decks. They're either big bucks or butt ugly. I'd be willing to go single but I don't have the guts to ask the dealer how much they want for that plastic dash insert/pocket.

Any ideas on double DIN models?
Is there an aftermarket/generic dash insert I can get?

Thanks,

Scosche makes a dash kit with a cheaper pocket...it's pretty inexpensive...

Check the sticky in this section for harnesses, etc....under the dash kist section.

That's the new Kenwood...but I'm gonna pass. I've had enough Kenwood after the MSP's headunit...I'm gonna go after the new Eclipse AVN.

thats it...i would rather spend the extra $200 or so and get a warranty. i install mobile electronics for a living and i see equipment go bad all of the time. repairs are not cheap. i bet you could get that deck at a authorized dealer for $1400 after tax...they'll negotiate on something that expensive.

I hear ya. Unfortunitly, most people need to get burned before they realize there is a great deal of value in a warrenty especialy in todays car audio products.
With the amount of electronics stuffed into head units these days, I can not think of a single one I have seen be free of defect. Some brands and models are better then others but none the less, some of any make and model enevitably malfunction.

Most install shops will have double din conversion kits to put in a pocket. You might need a metal cross bar to separate the DINs and that might not be included in the kit. I picked up a 2nd pocket for $25 CDN last week. Check out http://www.installer.com/kits/index.html for a list of dash kits that these guys carry. the main web is http://www.installer.com . I have no idea where they're located but they have a buttload of stuff.

Edit: picture of pocket...

I checked out sounddomain...there's already a few people that have them. One guy pre-ordered it. Does the dealer you work for get Eclipse? Does that mean you'd get a discount?!?! (naughty)

Yep, it does. Actually I think I could likely get ahold of one, but I'm not really setup on any sort of employee purcase deal with them yet seeingas everyone else at the shop I'm at is old and lame and they just think it's cool to slap a kenwood portable Sirius unit in their factory system. MY other possible setback is sometiems emploee stuff isn't quite as high priority as normal stock, so I ight be waiting a bit more still. Oh, that and scraping together the $ forit.

Right on their front page...I hate telling people about this thing, because a ton of people are gonna have it now...but it doesn't matter *that* much! It looks shaweet!!!
I would advise everyone to wait on that unit for a few months and be sure they are not problem prone.

They're starting to get out there now, and I currently don't have a job, so I'd have to wait one way or another! :)

All in dash screens must be equipt with a display blocking circuit.
All can be bypassed.
