Ok, spring is closing in.. As is 170,000 miles on my 2002.5 Protege 5. In that time, I have only replaced the battery (once) and the brakepads (once). Regular oil changes as well.

And that's it. Father forgive me, but the car still drives as new..

This spring, I'd like to take her in for a belt change, waterpump replacement, and everything else she needs. I need recommendations for a dealer service dept that I can trust and that others have had good experiences with. I didn't purchase the car in the DFW area.

Thanks in advance!

Todd

Yeah of you go to HILEY in arlington make sure you hook up with Brian first. He probably can give you discounts. BUt from most people they avoid Hiley because they have some bad reps on them. THey go to Freeman in irving i think.

I would NOT go to hiley in hurst under any circumstances. Their technicians are far from top notch. I've brought my car there multiple occassions in the past and have had numerous problems with their quality of service.

Brought in to look at the turbo once. The tech took it for a test drive with me in it. Beat the s*** out of the clutch like hes never driven one before, and even did it again after I commented.

They never really did anything with the turbo. Never said if anything was wrong flat out, beat around the bush, pretty much gave me the run around.

Came in another time for an oil change and they put a noob tech on it. Noob tech only put 2 qts of oil in before having the other tech start the car, where he procceeded to rev the car upon starting it. Other tech then inspected the oil level and realized the noob didn't fill the oil all the way. I then got home later that day and checked the drain bolt as a precaution (paranoid with my car) and realized they never tightened the drain bolt. I could back it all the way out with a few turns. I could only imagine (luckily) what would have happened if I hadn't checked and the bolt backed itself out.

Took it in to replace the stock head unit because it was starting to go out. Tech mentioned that it's sometimes hard to get the the a/c vent control arm back on properly (I guess removing it makes it easier to gain access to the back of the head unit). After head unit was replaced and all was said and done, the vent knob felt squishy when turned all the way to the right. Tech didn't install the arm properly.

I watch my car when its being worked on... So what? Well, some ass in parts decided it was unfair to the techs (since when are they paying my bills?) and confronted me saying it's a trust thing, etc, etc. I left flat out and never went back.

Tried Freeman later on. They're good customer service-wise (sometimes), but setting an appointment with them is a total waste of time (I've waited 2 hrs past my original appointment time before, and it wasn't THAT busy...) As for their techs, I took my car in for a CEL. They diagnosed it as the wastegate actuator. They replaced the actuator, and in the process left an exhaust mani leak. Car didn't feel any better afterwards either (later found out it's the wastegate itself thats foobar)

Decided to bring my car where I purchased it, Mesquite (Hancock Mazda). I brought it in for a head unit replacement and to get the issue with the turbo diagnosed. The Head Unit was ordered on the first visit, but they couldn't diagnose the turbo due to ice on roads. Came back in to get the Head Unit replaced. Headunit was replaced and turbo was diagnosed as having a stuck wastegate, turbo was ordered. I noticed after the head unit replacement my a/c vent knob is no longer squishy. I have to go back in to get the turbo replaced, which will also take care of the exhaust leak caused by Freeman. Will update to let everyone know how well Hancock takes care of the turbo replacement.

If you want to drive to McKinney I suggest taking it to El Dorado Mazda, Sleeper626 on the dfwmazdas boards works there. He will take great care of you.
