Dealer Remote Start

When I bought my Protege5 in 2003 they offered me a dealer installed remote start for like $800. The salesman was telling me that the car comes equipped to receive the unit from the factory and that no intrusive wiring is needed. Does anyone know where this spot is on the car and how to obtain the dealer remote start for a better price? (boom07)

there is no remote start option for the p5 from the factory. parts of the ignition wiring harness will need be tapped into

As for it being a factory option I'll call BS on that. To do it aftermarket without having to cut into the ignition wires, that's easy. You can order a harness from DEI, the makers of Viper, Clifford and a few other alarms, that plugs in between the key cylinder and the main loom. Just unplug the key harness and plug the adapter in and you have full acces to the ignition wires without cutting the factory lines.

i didn't even know DEI made a harness for our car. granted, i never really looked and tapped into the necessary wires anyway

i didnt think so either. i told him i didnt want them cutting into my wire harness to do the job and he probably wanted to bs me into doing the job by telling me it was modular. well im just going to be a man and deal with the cold for the 2 minutes it takes to warm up (rei)

that's the spirit ;)

im pretty sure it takes more than two min to warm the car up in the winter. . i remember when i was in nj last christmas it took a we bit more time. . ..going into the ignition wiring really isnt' that big of a deal as long as you know the persone working on your car is pretty reputable

I have the Clifford Matrix Responder installed in my Protege 5, only cost me $500.00 includes installation. The system includes remote start, 2-way responder transceiver, roll up and down all four windows and moon roof, back-up battery for alarm only, 2 sirens (one is hidden underneath the car), and all the good stuff that these Clifford alarms comes with.

Of course I had it installed at an authorized DEI retailer.
