Dealer bitched about Turbo Timer

I went to my dealer today about hesitation..nothing new..said Mazda is aware and working out a fix blah blah blah...

Anyways, while I was waiting, one of the service manager's remembered last time I went there he noticed my 'trick' turbo timer as he put it. "But"....he talked to one of his techs who noticed it also, and said that it could cause ecu problems when the car is on and could send false signals or something to the computer....basically I did not understand what the hell he was trying to say and it sounded like he was trying to scare me into thinking it could cause problems down the road. He said it might cause a check engine light to come on or something...I said I've had no problems with it at all... I told him all it does is keep the engine running when I turn the car off and has a built in boost guage, and I don't think it really messes around with the ecu..like he was trying to say..or whatever...

Has anyone else had the dealers complain about their turbo timers?

I'm sick of dealerships...

The other tech who rode along with me to see the stumbling was cool though, and seemed understanding that I wasn't trying to get one over on the dealer...I just wanted my car to work properly. He said not to worry about the turbo timer thing..just that the service manager wanted to point out it 'might' cause problems.....

If a dealer tells you it can cuase an issue tell them to immedatly draw a diagram of how it is hooked up.
If they can't then they have no clue even what circuits are effected and which were tapped into.

Yah what !st said. Any money the service mgr has not clue what a turbo timer does, or where its hooked up, or how to hook one up.

   I HATE ASSHOLE SERVICE MGRS LIKE THAT.(fight)

LOL. Does he know that a TT is a functional thing that will prolong turbo life, ie, make HIS life easier? Make sure to bring that up.

That said, I've never wired in a TT, so I can't say what it can and cannot THEORETICALLY effect.

I told him it was to benefit the turbo...and he was like "well...yeah.." and then the BUT...blahblahblah...

jerk off

Seriously, tell him to draw a diagram instantly of how it is hooked up.
If he can't then he has no idea how it is hooked up, what wires it is connected to or evenhow it works. In short he is totaly full of s***, saw a non stock device and tried to weasel out of future issues that may happen to the car.

If he can't draw it and wants to void a warrenty he'd better damn well be able to draw it by the time you get to court!

My dealer said the same thing, I scoffed when they said that, but they noticed my wife's books in the car and dropped that real quick. She's specializing in comercial law, consumer protection and warranties in law school.

Thanks for the replies guys..makes me feel better... I didn't really have the technical vocabluary to defend myself...

With you advertising the "Shocker"? I don't think I'd leave her with you for a minute or two let alone an hour!

Well seeing how a turbo timer merely "reads" information from the ECU, there is no way it could affect the vehicle's performance unless the timer is defective and putting out "noise/voltage" on the tapped connections. The timer should have a built in isolation circuit to prevent any type of interference. The power connections to the ignition switches should cause no issues whatsoever as you are merely providing 12 volts of power to the device.

So if I went to this dealer, would he try to tell me that my Compustar is going to cause problems down the road. I mean hell it has a turbo timer, remote start, and a timer on it to warm it up every 1.5-3 hours. So I guess with all of the turbo cars out there on the market now will just have so many problems from the timer, yep that has got to be it.
I guess also if I drink water while in my car I could die of electrocution because there is electrical stuff in my car. And well if we change out the stereo system then the battery will short out.......blah blah blah blah blah...
YOUR DEALER IS AN ASS!

I have had dealers refuse my customers service becuase of a remoe starter on the car.

This is the kind of bull s*** I'm tired of....dealers seem to make an excuse for any and everything....its so damn lame!

if the remote start was installed inpropery, it could start and roll while someone is working on it. Now this is VERY unlikely.

I wonder if my tinted windows might cause any problems...?

Yes, actually it can cause problems. When they do an inspection (if you have them in your state) the lame-asses might actually have to pay attention and not scratch up your tint. Then they have to pay for the removal and installation again of your tint.....yep next excuse already lined up. In fact, I just think that dealers are going to start to tell people not to drive their cars anymore because that will cause problems and also at the same point that you have to make sure it is driven at least once a weak so you don't get dry rot. Pretty much dealers will start telling us that we should just get bikes to ride around on (10 speed, 15 speed - just so you don't think I mean motorcycles), but still give them business every few months!
