Dash rattle help

Hey guys. Car now has about 1300 miles on it and I have just started noticing an annoying little dash rattle over on the passenger side. It only happens on rough pavement (like really pebbly stuff, not nessisarily broken pavement) and not over bumps. It's not bad enough to rush down to the dealer, and I'll probably talk to them about it at my first oil change. Has anyone had this same thing? Anyone have a suggested fix? I haven't crawled under there to see if anything was loose yet, but pounding my hand around the dash a bit didn't reveal it's location nor seem to affect the noise while it's occuring.

Thanks!

I thought I had a rattle in my dash and I bitched about it for 2 months, finally I took a tech out for a drive, and he to recognized the noise. It ended up being a loose fender lining in my front passenger side.

Just something to think about.

somthing else I heard and has been noticed on numerous cars...the ASH TRAY! ..... if its pushed ALL the way in...it will make a little rattling noise sometimes...pull it out just a little ways....it stops.

I have the same thing in mine. In my car it sounds like it's coming from the kickpanel area on the passenger side.

I'm getting ready to take my car in for the 15,000 service. I'm gonna get them to look at it.

Nramsey I'll let you know what they say mine is. That way maybe you can get a beeline on your rattle.

Thanks Matt!

pr5owner - it's like a rattle...not like pieces rubbing together. Almost like a loose screw is letting something vibrate a little. Like I said, only certain types of pavement make it happen. In my 7 mile commute to/from work there is only a section of about a mile where this noise occurs. It's also only over 40 MPH or so.

It's gotta be the same thing as in my car. The stuff your saying sounds like you been riding in my car then telling these guys about it.

Sweet! Keep me informed if you find a fix. If you don't find a cure for it by then I will be asking my dealer at my 3K mile oil change (I am at about 1300 miles now).

Just got back from the dealer. It didn't rattle on the way home.
Yippeee!

According to the little sheet they gave me, the A/C evaporator housing was loose. Hope you have the same problem so it can be a quick fix for you. Good luck.

Thanks. Sat in the passenger seat in my driveway yesterday for a few minutes pounding my hand on the dash a bit and couldn't reproduce the rattle, so perhaps it was something BEHIND the dash. I guess it's upside-down in the footwell time :) Thanks for the tip! Someone over on the protegeclub forum just posted a fix for the drivers side door rattle when a window or the moonroof is open too, so hopefully I'll be able to nail both this week :)

eh..this is really off-topic..i was just noticing matts pic..and how white accents every curve and flare /whatnot so much better than darker colors..*sigh*..looks like a completely different car

-still dreaming of Porsche PPg Arctic White-

Thank you. Your car looks good too. Now you just need some rims.

I now have an autoexe grill on my car and am waiting on my lip from DG. When I get those both painted I will have some new pics up.

OK that either didn't fix the rattle or it worked loose again. I'm leaning toward worked its way loose. It didn't rattle for like 5 days, but now it's doing it again.

Have you found the problem yet? I had a rattle coming from underneath the left side of the glove compartment. All I did was bend the wrapped wires that are there. The noise was wires rubbing together so lightly that it sounded like a ticking noise.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for the suggestions. Nope, I haven't found the rattle yet. Haven't had the time to crawl under there and check it out. I actually think the door rattle in my drivers door when the moonroof is open will be my first priority, man is that annoying...right next to my left ear. I think I will go insane :) . I can make it go away by resting my arm on the door with just a little pressure and someone here posted a fix that worked for them, something having to do with placing a little foam tape on a metal piece making contact with the door panel or something.
