dash rattle/buzz

guys, i have done a search, but can't seem to find any info on fixing this annoying dash buzz/rattle....

it's coming from around the display area on the center of the dash.

any ideas on how to eliminate this?

check your center council where the two pieces meet up front. I am pretty sure I had the same buzz you were talking about so I took it all apart and used some foam tape around any areas that touched and it went away for me.

thanks sport... it seems that is where the noise is coming from... for once i have everything needed to fix this... i think i will use foam from one of the tube things my kids use in the pool... seems a bit firmer, but i have both..

i'll also try to post a few photos of my progress, and put them on the thread you posted....

thanks again!

I had an annoying dash rattle from around the gauges. It only happened on rough roads, and I could make it stop by resting my hand on the plastic above the speedo/tach. So when my car was in at the dealer for service recently I had them check it out. It took them two days of searching, and they had to get pretty deep in there, but they finally were able to make it stop. It's a good thing foam is light, because I've got a lot of it in my dash now.

I have one on the plastic guard around the neck of the steering column. It started this morning on my way back from DC. Trying to troubleshoot that s*** at 70+ MPH was anything but enjoyable. Finally figured out what it is though. Am gonna check now to see if it's something I can just tighten.

Where in VA are you? I've had my dash apart a couple of times now, reseated all the clips and nary a rattle from there (the windshield cowl in cold weather, on the other hand... oy vey...).

i have the same annoying rattle also now around the steering column...thought it was the plastic surrounding the gauges but after feeling all around the area while driving, i finally found out it was the steering column.... what's the fix for this rattle...it's becoming pretty consistent

I think its more of a squeek / buzz and less of a rattle the one that comes from the LCD portion of the dash/console. it ******* blows since the car had 500 miles ive had mine. makes me wanna stick my dick in an open drawer and slam it shut.

geeze...wait till you get the windshield cowl rattle....

Sorry for the thread revival, but did anyone figure out a solution to the steering column rattle? I read that it could be the windshield wiper stalk.

My only solution so far has been to crank up the stereo when I'm going >55 on less-than-smooth roads. :-| I should probably try getting the service department to replace the guards, but I haven't bothered making an appointment for it.

My lower right side of my center console rattles annoyingly when starting from a stop and under any load under 1750 RPM or so... It's not up on the dash... like down by the cigarette lighter.

Like I showed in that how-to I posted, egg crate-like packing material works great in the spots you can shove it behind. If you can remove the piece, place some small strips of the foam in the spots that touch other parts of the dash. Limiting the plastic on plastic rubbing will get rid of some of the rattles or at least make them less frequent.

I had that buzz/rattle as well a few months ago. It's the spot where the centre console ends so to speak. Like Sport6 said, nothing like a few pieces of packing foam couldn't cure. I got quite a bit of that foam in various parts of my dash nowadays! This stuff does wonders and all it takes is a bit of time and effort to figure out where these buzzes & rattles are coming from.
