Well, yesterday I thought I would do a top speed run. I was going, going, going-------WHAM!!! It felt like a brick wall. 132 is fast but I want faster. Any way to bypass the speed limiter. I noticed the RPMs were creeping up on 6000 so theres not that much left but 140 or more would be nice. Oh yeah, I read a thread on here about how long it takes to reach 130. It does take forever. Maybe not 47 seconds but it felt like forever.
 
I got up to 132 and let off I didnt get any kind of cut. Yeah I also noticed taht the RPMs are really high up there were you are going that fast.
 
There is no speed limiter in the Protege...

The fuel cut-off is probably what you felt.

The gearing limits the car to about 142 or so...

132 isn't fast enough for you??!!!???!!!

how much faster do you want to go for God's sake?? Where on earth are you finding a stretch of road long enough to pull this off??
 
there is no limiter on the MSP it is a full cut you feel ! also there are nice long straight aways going thru nebraska and there is no speed limit drive at own risk! also in the desert!
 
would Joe P's little FCD stop this so you could cruise at 140 and burn a tank of gas in about 30 mins?
 
Uhh actually it is a speed governor set at i believe 130mph, the speedo will read between 130-135. Fuel cut comes in at 6750.

I have fuel cut set at 7100 on my car but I won't go for a top speed run until I finish tuning.

Doubt that, no Protege has ever had a speed limiter/governor or what ever...

also check this 3rd gear run out

3rd Gear 7100rpm 95mph

This is a run I did at about 8.5psi to see what 3rd would top out at with the new limiter. You can see the factory tach going up to about 7500rpm before I hit the limiter... shows the inaccuracy of the factory setup.
 
Like the Vid, Nice....;) (Thread Jack) BTW did you know jaime's Protege is turbo'd Now. he's running 8PSI and bald tires, and lost to a Evo8 by 1car lengh.:)

Not sure, "didn't ask" but he has the Loudest bpv, Man his car is mean, I think he's got the TurboXs bpv. He said he's got 550c fuel injector's he's installing soon and something else, not sure but man, I love his Protege it's mean.
 
right on.... if he's running the GTX turbo still he's going to max out around 220-230whp (and thats pushin it)

It should run a good 13.4-13.9 with traction, possibly a very low 13 with perfect traction. I had a 13.73 in my old beater.

Back on topic, 1G proteges did not have governors. MSP's do.

I did own a 94 Protege LX with mod's and it did 135MPH at 6200rpms. (Redline is at 7000rpm). My MP3 has been up to 132mph on an incline several times. Don't know about the MSP but few magazines say the Speed Limiter is set at 130-135mph.;)
