Why a Porsche instead of a Lotus Elise?

lotus=amazing track car... not the greatest for going back and forth to the grocery store...

I know quite a few people in their 50's-60's and even older (John Fitch for instance) that drive high performance vehicles. They can handle them, they don't have anything to prove to anyone and they can afford them. Why not get one? These same guys could probably hand you your ass on the track too. Experience and patience.

this is about 80% true

Paul Newman is 81, and IIRC, he co-drove in the 24 Hours of Daytona a few years ago. Now that man can drive, even in his advanced years!

It's commom knowledge that he's a robot.

Until you push him down the stairs.

I ride motorcycles with a guy in his 70s. He rides an 05 R6. He also rides it pretty darn fast for someone on the short list for getting St Peter's autograph.

He farts dust and waited tables at the last supper. Jesus is in his yearbook!

I don't mind these older guys getting sports cars. If I am 75 and have the where-with-all to buy a fancy car and pull trim, damn right I am going to. If a Porsche will make a girl 40 years my minor want to see my dried up tally, I'd buy a second. Maybe even a 3rd.

I used to be envious also, maybe even mad when I was younger. Now that I'm a little older, I realize that if you have the money and you're into cars like that, why not? Don't be jealous. They wanna have fun also. If I had the money I would have done the same, regardless of my age. Remember, you'll always be a kid at heart, so whatever you loved as a kid will carry over with you until your memory fades.

All I know I'm going to be one of those old guys pissing off the young punks when I grow up. I used to be jealous of them until I started to realize that most of them punch the gas harder than I do. Now my anger is directed toward the chubby old ladies in the C7 corvettes that drive 10 under the speed limit while putting on their eyeliner.
well I have one less vette for the old ladies to get their hands on...However, I'd rather not see old ladies driving like maniacs on the public roads just because their car can handle it. At least this way when they cause an accident it will be at slower speeds. (ugh) and that goes for men too. Point is... keep it on the track.

Umm never dreamed of having an Elise, always dreamed of a Porsche since the first time I ever saw one. I think the Porsche may be a little more liveable on a daily basis and with a wife ya gotta consider those kinds of things!
