Sweetest Car Ever
Ok so back in Oct. i gotta speeding ticker for 23 over, 53 in a 30. I knew it was BS and the cop was pulling me over cuz the car i was in. It was a 2002 lincoln LS with tinted windows (which are illegal in this state) and chrome rims, etc...

The speed limit drops down to 30 in one little spot and then right back up to 55 and she was coming around a corner coming towards me right as i was getting to that sign. She clocked me at 53, 52, 51, 54, which shows that i tapped my brakes and then realized i was in the 55 zone and continued to speed up.

Anyways, todayi had the informal hearing and im sitting there waiting to go into the court and i see the female cop who gave me the ticket and the female judge walking in together laughing and talkin like best friends. Right then i knew i was screwed but i went in there and gave my arguement and the judge basically dismissed everything i said. This is such bulls***. that ticket is worth 5 points here and you only need 12 to get your lisence suspendid. So those 5 added onto the 5 or so i already had.....Im gettin close. I scheduled a formal hearing so appeal the decision so ill see how that goes.

Sorry i had to vent this to someone. (deadhorse

wait, was the radar wrong? or were you speeding?

i don't understand the merit of you fighting the ticket.

just accept responsibility ?

GET A LAWYER! If money is less important to you than points, get a lawyer, or at least consult one. I've talked to a lot of people who've gotten completely off with a lawyer and I personally had my charges severely dropped (from a speeding ticket and a reckless endangerment ticket to just speeding).

Having said that, that really sucks to hear man. I hope you can work it out.

Damn, that sucks. I have never really had good luck with cops either. I got a ticket in August here in Houston. I was lost and looking for a road when the laser signal on the radar detector went off. By then it was too late to do anything and I got ticketed for doing 55 in a 30 MPH Zone which was in a construction zone while workers were present. $365!!! Told the cop I was from out of town and was lost, but he didn't care. Some cops have let me off with warnings so there are some cool cops out there.

He's saying that the speed trap was set up on a short section of road where the speed limits goes from 55, down to 30, then back to 55 right away. The cop clocked him slowing down for the 30 section, but he was already through it before he got below 50.

Close, i slowed down to like 35 and then once i got within like 50 yards of the sign i hit resume on the cruise and by the time i was just passed the 55 sign she came around the corner and said that i was still in the 30 zone. So technically if i was in the 30 zone then yeah i was speeding, but being past the 55 sign i was doing 2mph UNDER.

Where was it? If it was a state cop, you're screwed. If it was county, you're probably screwed. If it was local, you might have a chance.

its a speed trap, its what its there for and the means of the speed limit im sure are justified. Suck it up... you got caught being lazy.

you were speeding and you knew it. you even know the area so well that you knew the speed limits and where it changes. yet you continue to speed through the area. smart.

Agreed. You sped, and you got caught.

obviously none of you have gotten big tickets. i understand that speeding is illegal and you need to be punished. but getting 5 points is making the insurance company more money not the state. and isn't one of the points of ticketing to make the state extra revenue? honestly i beileve tickets should just carry heavier fines and less points for things like speeding. obviously other violations shouldn't follow that. (puts flame cap on)

Your only chance is to get a lawyer. (shrug)

man, the way you explain it, that situation really blows, cuz i do the same thing with speed limits... but i guess its up to the cop whether to let it slide or ticket you, but thats one hell of a ticket.... sorry dude.

yeah if i were speeding i would admit it. I was technically speeding, but for her to write me up for 23 over is total BS. IF she had just written me up for like 10 over i would have been ok.

My lawyer both times was $400, I really didnt want to pay the money but it saves soo much money in the future from surcharges, and insurance surcharges.

Yeah. You can at least call a couple and see how much they're gonna charge you.
Try to find a lawyer that's local to the court so they know how that particular system works.
