Damn Air fresheners...

I bought one of those damn air fresheners(shaped like a little blue pine tree) from a car wash a couple days ago, and since it's illegal to hang them from your mirror, I hung it around the plug for my cell phone's charger cable, which as you know sits above the cup holder lid. I came out there a couple days later(after driving the car daily and not noticing anything) to see that the air freshener appears to have rubbed off the silver paint for the lid, and even left blue marks on the paint.

My wife wedged one in her air vent and the damn freshener melted the plastic. No Joke!

Be careful with those things.

Yeah, one of those melted part of my cup holders, like glued to it in my previous car.
Just dont let the sun shine to it directly.

jesus christ what kind of air freshners you guys use? if they have the nuke sign on them, stay away! i put mine in the glove box, the air tends to whisk the smell in moderations out from the glove box...except all my speeding tickets smell like country kitchen now.

What really works well is sticks of incense. That stuff lasts forever. I stick it in a plastic bag and poke holes in it. Shake the bag up whenever I need it. Good stuff.

AHAH sorry man should have warned you since it left some stain on my center console. But many applications of dash cleaner fixed it.
Not sure about you though might just want to pick up a whole new lid or take it off.

btw just hang the stupid thing like I do, they won't bother you for it.

just get some odor-x it smells pretty good, just one spray on the carpet and you are set....also gets rid of funny smells if ya know what i mean...(stoned)

They make a new car smell air freshner but it sucks major arse.
So no there isn't any real way to keep it
Just have to replace it with a smell you like also.

the best way is to buying new plastics that has a strong smell of "new plastic" (like those chair/floor protectors or to roll over a carpet) and throw it in the car, or if you buy stuff that has plastics for protection (electronics stuff) , as soon as opening the box, keep the plastics in the car.

or....get some seat covers and clean them up as soon as it looses the smell.
floor mats, keep buying new ones. clean them for 6 months and change them after that.

or use some adhesive spray under the car whole mats.

There is a spray on air freshener that has the same smell as new car. However it is usually only available to auto detailers and dealers(available in 4 litre jugs only).

I suppose you could try and buy a small amount off of one of them..
