Daily-Driven big turbo MSP Build up

My guess that your problem was with your boost control or maybe the spring. Porting may have help you work around a problem. Maybe the your wastegate spring had to much preload on it.

Anything's possible, but when I had less preload on it, it had much more noticable lag.

Either way, I'm just sharing my experience.

I've also heard of a lot of guys with other cars who needed to port their T3 internal wastegates after 15psi or so.

Maybe your spring was week(rockon)

I just know you have something like 300,000 Ford 2.3s and maybe 500,000 Chrysler 2.2 and 2.5 running them with no ported wastegate.

Also, I think matt's situation is a little different. It's not just getting boost creep when he tries to run 15ps. We drove around with the wastegate fully open last night, and the boost gauge was pegged at 20psi at times. The thing is, when it hits 20psi there's no wheelspin, so it's not making the power it should be. Matt said when he has the wastegate connected it spins once it hits 15psi.

Weird stuff.

indeed. the connection is there. Something with the turbo is massively F'ed up. We'll try the t3/t4 and see just how much it fixes. I'll be revving to 7500rpm once i get the ported head and ze cams. Plenty of reves to get that thing going.

The light has gone on, maybe.

Sound like you have launch control. I mean you must have your timing very very retarded. That is almost the only way you would get boost like that.

damn mega-squirt ;). LOL...

that is really odd.. it was also odd that you got the issue with the wastegate hanging open AND no exhaust on (I think you did that combo right?)

yeah, i did that combo. That's a very very very interesting hypothesis, Nick. Problem is, I don't see how the ECU would be pulling so much timing. The IAT is in the damn fenderwell. It's seeing 30 degree air right now. It does NOT have a MAF or an O2 sensor though. I should datalog that and see what it's doing. I'll do it when I get home.

EDIT: after thinking about this a little more, I really don't think the increased exhaust energy (added heat from retarded timing) would really cause enough energy to spin the turbo up with the WG open. for the size of the WG, even with that increased energy, it just doesn't seem possible. I'll get timing under control real soon(if i can get some custom plug wires made, anyone happen to have any sources for this?), and I'll see if making the timing more workable helps things. One thing at a time, though.

I can get you accel custom wires... you have to build them yourself too your lengths... but they should have the right boot on them... I'm also working with Magnecore now as well...
