Daily-Driven big turbo MSP Build up

Hey yeller how many lbs were you able to shave off ur crank? mines getting knife edged right now and have 5lbs off already and they are starting to grind the other side now since our cranks are so heavy and to cut down on windage.

excellente! I made a big effort to get my DP as smooth as possible, b/c the size was restricting enough, so I tried really hard to make the bends smooth, especially just as it exits the turbo, because backpressure in that area is the worst place possible.

yeah.. mine is so bad that no matter what I do you can't pull out more than 14 psi boost stable... the turbo is known for running 24+ on DSM's... but I can't even get above 14 right now because of that DP.

I just took some pics of what the mitsubishi exhaust flange looks like so others can get a idea of what turfburn is talking about...

Yep... that'd be the flange! LOL... and the mating part that smaller hole (wastegate) is the one that is half blocked off by weld... and both of those holes are making the 90 degree turn to go down by mating to a 30 degree pipe and with a whopping total distance of 1.5" MAX that it does it in... :(

anywho... going OT... how about yeller's car! LOL :)

i believe it, man. that sounds horrible. good luck! You know, eventually I'm gonna have to come take a look at that car, and vice-versa. Later

Yeah, my friend runs 22psi on his and he only has a 2.5" downpipe. Sounds like you definately have to fix that.

The car looks good yeller. I love the stock look and it's good to see you actually track the car. I'm most intrested in the MS set-up. My friend just wired one up for a turbo Scion Tc and it works great. (He's using the same turbo as you btw) He wants to drop it in my car so I've been contemplating it the last few days.

is this guy on the MSefi boards? Cause I think I've seen him post there. Sounded like he knew his stuff pretty good.
Thanks for the compliments! I like the way my car looks stock, don't see any reason to change it.

I don't get it. I thought all that weight was there for a reason. Isn't it there to counteract the momentum of the piston and connecting rods, so your engine doesn't fly apart from the stress at high speeds? I have seen pics of knife edged crank, so I know what it looks like, but I am not very familiar with the practice. Doesn't shedding pounds off the crank horribly screw up the balance?

yes, it would. However, with forged pistons and rods, that weigh a good bit less than the stock stuff, you have to shave weight off anyways. so you might as well do it by knife-edging. but yes, for a stock motor, that would be very true.

they balance your crank while doing it so it still spins like it does when its stock it just spins easier, basically the same thing as getting a lightened flywheel

Not sure...what name does he post under and where is he located? It could be him. He know's his stuff and set up a MS system on his friends turbo Scion that's pushing 11psi on the same turbo as you.

Yeller, your car sounds clean as hell. Can some of this be attributed to the 50 series muffler. Not a lot of import guys run the flows, but I've seen a few vids with some well sorted hondas and they sounded just right also. No rice to be heard

Did you ever get full functionality (i.e. timing control) from your megasquirt. Omaha seems to be Meqasquirt central for the US since we have one of the lead test/engineers in town... there are like ******* 85 megasquirted vehicles roaming around. One MSP has attempted the install but i havent heard if it ended up working.

just curious if there was an update with this?
