CX15 - 2015 OEM Remote Car Start

Hey guys:

I have the CX15 and the OEM remote car start. I'm leasing, so I wanted to be safe and get the Mazda one so they couldn't screw me down the road with "you after using aftermarket" parts.

Anyway, I have the keyless system and disappointed I need a separate fob for this. Also, is there any way not to have it stop the engine when I open the door? You would think they would detect that you have the smart key on you and not do that.

Not sure what you're talking about. I just installed the OEM remote starter on my Mazda and it does NOT require a separate fob for the starter.

Since the car will run without a fob present AFTER it has been started, the engine must shut off when a door is open or anyone could drive away with your car. I understand how the start sequence works and I don't have a problem with the engine shutting down when I enter the car.

The installation is not that difficult. Give it a try if you are reasonably handy. There is a very good 'How To' post here on Mazdas247.

Unless Gp 2004 has a unit i'm not familiar with, you have to carry around the remote start fob and the standard fob. There is no way around that unless you install an aftermarket unit.

Also, the engine stop on door open function is a security feature. Even the aftermarket keyless bypasses kill the engine when the door opens.

I misunderstood. I thought that the OP meant that an original key fob was required to be left in the remote starter module, as some aftermarket units do. The remote starter kit comes with a starter fob. Yes, you would have to carry the starter fob around with you if you intend to use the remote starter, but all remote starters, that I have seen, come with a fob.

Fortin does make an aftermarket remote start stand alone system that utilizes the factory fob to start the car with a 3x Lock start sequence. The remote start will still shut down when a door is opened, but it would save you from having to carry around a secondary remote. The downside is that the factory keyless remote is limited in range. You might get 300 ft from the factory fob where most remote start systems will have 3-4 times that distance.

I know it's aftermarket, but if installed correctly by a good qualified tech, there shouldn't be any issue when your lease ends. More than likely, they would never know it even had an aftermarket system installed.

BTW, if you install the EVO-ALL and burn a FOB, there is a take over sequence that doesn't shut the engine off. But who wants to deal with one key fob or pay the dealer $200 for a third.

with the fortin you can install second dedicated remote which gives you 1500 ft range its called revo crime stopper its an add on to fortin system but is not required this only adds range

It's been always the case with Mazda remote start - separate FOB and engine off when door opens.
