CX-9 won't start - Smartkey issue?

Good morning

We went to start our CX-9 yesterday, and it appears to be "locked" in the steering column. The ignition won't turn. The car battery is fine. I tried the metal manual key inside the smart key and that doesn't work. We've tried everything. Even if the battery were dead on the Smartkey, would the manual key work?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I just had the problem today. I found the following suggestion on another forum solved my problem: I turned the wheel back and forth while the metal manual key was in the ignition and it worked. I had replaced the battery in my advanced key too, but it didn't solved the problem.

The steering wheel lock is normal. One needs to jerk it left/right while turning the metal key to turn the ignition. That has been that way from years on all vehicles.
No problem there.

As to the SmartKey, when you carry it inside the vehicle, are you seeing the yellow key-shape light flashing in the dash? If not, the ECU is not seeing the key. If battery is new, then, it is something else. Try another SmartKey you have? You should have two when it was new. The chance of both broken is slim. If so, the sensor could be bad. (one of the inside ones).

Take it to the dealer if sensor is bad. Nothing you can do about it.
