CX-9 Power Liftgate won't open

I wasn't getting any beeps. The button the on hatch itself, the one by the drive's seat and key fob all did nothing at all. So I think it went into some kind of fail safe mode.

What I've done in the past was to use the hatch button and then also pull the hatch so that I assist the open mechanism with my muscles. That often is enough to break up the ice and open the hatch without the system going into panic mode. This time I wasn't thinking and just hit the button by the driver's seat and it just gave up.
