Latest video does a nice comparison overlay of the CX-30 and CX-5 with the CX-50.

Yup. Most of the photos in that video are my own. If you have any questions let me know, or if you want specific pictures. We took an album’s worth. Tried to capture everything we could.

I toured the CX-50 recently in Snoqualmie, WA.

I am a 6ft tall female, 220lbs (give or take) and had no issues with the headroom in the front or rear seats. (Mind you, in the attached picture the seats hadn’t even been adjusted to my suitable driver’s position yet. And I still had headroom that far forward.) Rear headroom may be an issue with those over 6 ft 3 inches. Part of it may be how the seats are positioned. I naturally seat mine lower as I have long legs; but the picture my friend took of me in the driver’s side, was with the seat set to a little higher than the “factory” position. (height-wise). Unfortunately, like the CX-30, this vehicle definitely could present a challenge for those over 6 ft 3 without the seats lowered a bit. I absolutely fell in love with the vehicle myself. I have no issues with my 6ft self. Hope this was helpful. - Shanele
Great post and welcome to Mazdas247!

Thank you for posting! These are the best photos I've seen yet showing the panoramic roof outside the marketing one from Mazda. Your photo also confirms the rear USB ports are not in the rear fold down like it is on the CX-5. Glad you confirmed the headroom is great despite the official specs and that the terracotta interior colors looks like the marketing pics and not leaning to a vibrant orange.

I don't think anyone would mind more photos - it's all about seeing extra details and you and your friend are taking different perspective shots than we've seen so kudos and thank you :)

It appears Mazda answered the CX-50 complaints that the arm rest was too short by moving the cup holders to the front of the console. That's a long reach for a beverage. It will also take some acclimation to avoid bumping the shift lever with a beverage.

On the plus side, they moved the climate control higher on the dash so as not to be obscured by cups. The low positioning of the climate control in CX-5 is one of my minor nit picks with the interior design.

Here’s some more of our pictures. 🤙🏽❄️
How did it look/feel dimensionally compared to the cx5? Does it actually seem like it can haul more stuff? Is it taller/shorter when standing next to the car? Thx for all the photos by the way!

It can definitely fit more in the hatch then the CX-5, especially in terms if length. It is deeper. This car is a Skier and Snowboarder’s dream. With the Turbo, towing capacity is a 3,500lbs. It’s slightly shorter than the CX-5 but even as someone who is 6ft tall, I had issues loading my roofrack or even cleaning the roof without a stool on my ‘17 CX-5. Lol The CX-50 is still very much “Kodo” so the body lines and curves that the customers demand from Mazda can effect interior head space. If people aren’t satisfied with rear passenger space; they will have to be comfortable compromising a bit on the exterior styling. I myself, was very satisfied with the vehicle both inside and out. I am personally on this vehicle’s market for the purpose of light overlanding, hiking and transportation of dogs over 60lbs. My CX-5 barely cuts it. Two 80+ lb dogs are cramped in the back with the seats up and I can’t always have them folded down. The CX-50 completely mitigated that issue. Just keep in mind it’s not a HUGE car that many expected it to be. It is the CX-5’s stretched sibling. It’s not a car for huge people. 6ft 3+ is pushing it for rear seat comfort. As to be expected. The roofline is lower for loading comfort. It is to the CX-5 as the CX-30 is to the CX-3.

Am I blind or this has IRS ?

No that is their patented Torsion Beam suspension setup. It’s almost identical to the CX-30 and CX-3’s rear suspension setup. 90% of people buying this car, won’t even tell the difference between multi-link and TBS. Here’s the rear TBS on a ‘17 CX-3 GT. I’m indifferent about Mazda’s decision to change the suspension only because it’s cheaper for both them and us in the long run. Less s*** breaking on the car and unless your taking a corner at 55mph+, you won’t feel much difference. It’s not like they can’t change decisions later down the road if they start financially flourishing. Hell they might even give us off-roading suspension upgrades and a locking diff…lol we can only hope.

I read the cx5 outsold the Honda CRV for January.
Maybe Honda had fewer vehicles available for sale in Jan.
Chip shortage impacts automakers differently.
I see more vehicles (30-40) at new car lots when I visited local Mazda dealer 3 days ago.
There were fewer than 10 few months ago.

ShaneleR, you officially have the coolest profile image ...sitting in a pre-production CX-50 :)

Thank you for the photo gallery you uploaded! ..and great to have a CX-5 owner's perspective on the above for someone looking to buy their first mazda.

Happy to help. I am biased to Mazda as a company, but regardless of how much I like a brand I will offer unbiased, concise opinions on any vehicle. I personally love the CX-50 already. Here’s to hoping the initial launch is successful and it continues Mazda’s reliable heritage.

Thanks for the great pics! I already knew that that the rear seat back was split 60/40 instead of 40/20/40 as on the CX-5 and the cargo side panels were plastic, not carpeted. I noticed the cargo area under floor area doesn't provide much storage space and there's only one seat back pocket on the passenger side. I was hoping for more "utility" in this new model; do you know if the console and glove box are larger than on the CX-5, this would compensate.

Now, I can't wait for the first road test by auto journalists and anyone who can drive one:)

They are similar in size. The space in both the Glovebox and Center console suffice for me in both my CX-5 and the CX-50. There is now a document tray in the 50’s glove compartment. They do not have the sliding tray in the new center console, like in the 5. Also not a loss to me, I’ve had more frustrating oopsies with that tray in my CX-5 then I care to admit. It got in my way and flew…that’s all I’ll say. 😂 In terms of the lack of a seat pocket on the driver’s side, I’m not so sure of the reason myself. I also make no use of my seat pockets; so I’m indifferent, personally. I’d assume they’ll have a reason for that, because that would be odd. I’m sure all the annoyances with the 1st year model will be mediated in the following year models; we just have to communicate that to Mazda. They are one of the few Manufacturers left that actually listen to their consumers. Didn’t expect MazdaUSA to notice me on social media, but they reached out about my photos. I trust that they know what they are doing. I will most likely be waiting until the 2024 model year releases. However, I will be test driving the first available turbo model on my local lot. I’ve already reached out to my service advisor to get heads up when they have stock. Plan to acquire that mysterious Meridian Edition. 😁

Even more unnecessary photos of the CX-50s. Featuring my ‘17 CX-5 GT hidden in one shot and in front of the scenery in another. Meet “Jack”. Hoping to upgrade to Jack 2.0 in the next year or so. 🤙🏽

Btw, I got a lot of questions from a FB CX-50 forum about where the rear passenger dome lights were, they are underneath the rear “Oh Sh*t Handles” on both sides of the vehicle. Clever Mazda, clever because it took us a day to find them. 😂
