CX-5 reliability -- let's get better information ASAP

We've updated our reliability stats for the CX-5 to include owner experiences through June 30, 2016. Reliability information elsewhere is based on a survey conducted in April 2015--well over a year ago.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2016 CX-5: 14, low
2015 CX-5: 9, low
2014 CX-5: 20, low
2013 CX-5: 15, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2016 CX-5: 82, < 1
2015 CX-5: 92, < 1
2014 CX-5: 81, < 1
2013 CX-5: 86, < 1

We'll have further updates in November and next February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

P5 - how does the CX5 stack against others? I think there are minor fit and finish issues besides that I hope the 2.5L which is mazdas bread and butter will last 80-100K easy peasy.

I would hope it would be 150 to 200k. I have never had or seen a car die at 80k unless it was maintenance neglected.

It's depending on how you define "die" I guess. My 2001.5 VW Passat was having leaking water pump with broken plastic impeller in its 2.8L V6 at 55,000 miles in 2012. It'd cost $2000+ to fix it by most garages unless I fix it by myself since it involves all timing belt system. It's "dead" by my view at that point because it's no longer drivable risking potential timing belt breakage. It's not acceptable for a normal engine life IMHO.

It better last a lot longer than that. '06 Ford Escape Hybrid just turned 280,000 miles. It wears a version of the Mazda MRZ motor.
