CX 5 has oil leak from timing chain area. Dealer calls it road grime. NOT Joking.

:
2014 Mazda CX 5 Touring
I take the wifes 2014 CX5 with 35,000 miles to have a slow oil leak documented and possibly diagnosed. I showed the service writer the exact area around the timing chain gaskets and slid my finger across the oil to show him the color. Calls next day and says it not oil. Its road grime. So I ask what is road grime? He states all the dust on that area has just built up. And I ask then what is the fluid that I have been monitoring slowly leaking out and has all the dust sticking to it. Round and round. Eight days later they all are sticking to its road grime. So apparently liquid road grime that looks like oil and smells like oil traveled thru the grille, condenser, p/s cooler, radiator, fan and fan shroud then moved over to the passenger side and landed on the timing cover area. And thats what they believe is happening.

What they dont know is that I work at an exotic car shop. I showed the area to our head tech and right away knew just like I did that it is motor oil after sliding finger on it and smelling it. My service writer cracked up. He would never ever say its road grime. He thought that was either unprofessional or incompetent.

What do I do? Its under warranty and next closest dealership is 30miles or so away.

Yes, if another dealer is only just 30 miles away, I would go to the other dealer. Some dealers are just not interested in performing warranty work.

You should read this thread, Brand new CX-5 oil leak and see how OP MJLyco handled his situation. Although your case seems minor, but I'd call Customer Experience Center, Mazda North American Operations at (800)222-5500 to set up a case. Yeah, I wouldn't want driving 30 miles and wasting my time to visit another Mazda dealer!

Step one: clean the area thoroughly. Gunk makes an aerosol engine clean product which works well. Spray it on and hose it off. Don't forget to clean the area above the source as well.
.
Step two: purchase an aerosol can of athletes foot powder. Once the area is thoroughly dry, coat it with the powder
.
Step three: wait and watch. If there is oil leaking, the powder will show the exact source.
.
Step four: return to the dealer and point. If necessary, rub the SA's nose in it.
.
Good luck!

These people are obviously incompetent, should've at least given you the benefit of the doubt and put some dye in the motor oil. I wouldn't trust them for future repairs. My dealer is 30 miles away and well worth the drive because problems get resolved the first time.

...and move quickly. Since you have 35,000 miles, you don't want them complicating things by saying you are over 36,000 basic warranty.

Yes! My nearest COMPETENT dealer is 150 miles away... This dealer values my business, and it shows every time. Well worth the drive because things get done without a hassle. Please also contact that 800 number for Mazda and let them know about your experience. I think you will find that they will be most enthusiastic and prompt in making sure your issues are addressed.

Yes! Great point!

NO.
Have the dealer clean it off.
Get proper documentation stating there is a leak.
