CX-5 GT questions

how's everyone?
so far I have gotten my Cx-5 GT Canadian version for one month.
around 750kms so far (we went on a van so nobody is driving it)

just a few thing I would like to ask here:
1. the fuel economy indicate current MPG is 10.2L/100kms.
is this normal? I am expecting to get a much lower rate.

2. I found my car is very difficult to upgrade to 6th gear even when car is above 85km/hr.
sometimes, I could notice the car is screaming (maybe not a correct word here, just pretty noisy if let me say), but just stick in the 5th gear.
anyone knows if this is normal?

Manual or auto? 2.0 or 2.5? Also if you are accelratingat that speed you would usually
not try it in 6th

2.5L auto.
everytime when I have noticed the noisy, I switched to manual mode; and it indicates it is in 5th gear.
that's how I could tell.
odd thing is when I use "+" to upgrade into 6th, it did upgrade to 6th gear.
wondering why in the auto mode it didn't shift up to 6 in the same circumstance

If the car is in 6th gear and your engine is not under a load ( foot on accelerator) than when you put the transmission in manual mode it will automatically downshift one gear or to 5th and you may think the transmission was in 5th.

I have noticed the same thing that V8toilet posted. When you go to manual it shows 5th gear.

That has not been my experience. When I shift to manual mode at highway speeds, it displays 6th gear.

I am pretty sure it was in the 5th gear because of the noise.
and after I manually shift to 6th gear, the sound is more smooth and RPM is dropping obviously.

is your typical driving in a hilly area? It will downshift to 5th on any significant angle.

Tried it several times today. If you move it to manual while keeping your foot on the throttle it will stay in 6th, however if you let up on the throttle it will shift down to 5th when you move it. There weren't any big hills so I couldn't try atitus's comment about hills.
