2013~2016 CX-5 Gear Selector Light?

Does anyone know if there should be any light/illumination in the are that show your gear, next to the gear shifter, P, R, N, D etc.?

Even in dark conditions there are no light in my car, which make it a bit hard to know where you are if you don't look in the cluster. I feel there should be some light in the place seen in the picture.

Mine is a 6MT, so I go by feel.

I did replace one of the maplights with a red LED, which is great for very low level illumination.

The dash has your gear selection. Is there some reason you can't use that?
Yes as I said, I can see it in the cluster, But since it is there next to the shifter to be seen in day light I found it naturally to be illuminated. When it is really cold and dark, the cluster is lagging (some seconds) and it is a bit hard to see where the shifter is, no biggie, more so I don't have a broken bulb and it is supposed to be visible in the dark.

Yes that could be something, I guess you need to push it ON each time?
I had a Prius a few years ago, that had a LED that made the gear shifter easy visible in a nice light from above.

Go by the feel is definitely possible for me too, the thing is the CX-5 is just an extra car, seldom in use, so the "feel" is quite off😇

2015 GT. Yes the letters light up red and there is an orange light beside which gear you are in. But mine has a leather boot around the shifter instead of the plastic cutout, not sure if that makes a difference.

My sister's gated shifter 2014 M 6 also has no light illumination.

My 2015 which was updated to the newer design of shifter has no issues with the light.

Seems this is some sort of trend.

Well, he's right. Kinda hard to mess up a "shift" if you're half paying attention.

Or looking at the gauges.
I guess both of you missed the part of lagging due to cold weather, however what's wrong about have a functioning light down at the gear shifter?

Most people are probably capable to drive with a lot of missing functions, not really what I asked...

Did his and your answer give anything? Kind of answer a question without half pay attention to what is asked.

I don't see any rules which requires members to strict adhere to answering your question exactly as expected by the OP.

I will mention two more things:

1. I just found your post which mentioned lag in the gauges

2. I also remembered that you have a gated shifter, not a straight up or down like in 2015 models onward.

With the gated shifter, if there is lag in the cluster, I can start to understand why you would want the light by the shifter to be repaired. I was unfortunately only thinking from the perspective of the newer style of shifter, for which I personally would never bother to take apart my center console to replace a bulb.

There, I owned up to not reading your entire thread and provided another opinion based on that new information. There's no need to get worked up.

Well yes, I will bother since I will find it nice to have the gears in light, the are is dark in general. But it¨s nice if people that answer the question (since I didn't know if there are a bulb), rather than come with "smart ass", comments, I more refer to the first reply, which you agreed with, since it rather go agains the whole idea with a forum, -bring answers and give knowledge.

I am calm, just not agree with the idea that those type of comments are even a bit helpful, only it bring is a feeling of, "you asked a stupid question, here you have a stupid answer.

With that said, thanks to all helpful answers. And if the bulb is broken and I can get it to function as it should, I get back with the report;)
