Anyone knows what tint % I should get to have the front windows of my 2016 CX-5 GT match the rear?
I don't like the difference in tint between the front and rear windows and with black leather seats, anything I can do to lower the temperature of the interior is welcome.

My rears metered out at 16% (kinda odd) So I did 15% on the fronts. Can't really see the difference from the outside. From the inside you can see jusssssst a slight difference.

Front darker or rear darker?

Thanks

Just had mine done a few weeks ago, rears metered to 22% so I did the fronts at 20%. It's a spot on match and it looks awesome. I'll get some pics posted if I can, it's hard to do from the mobile device

Thanks for the info. I had 20% in mind so it's good to get a confirmation. Would love to see pictures but no hurry. Your CX-5 is Meteor Gray, right?
Thanks to 52804x4 too.

As promised here is the pic I have of the front windows tinted to 20%. You can see it's a nice sunny day and a perfect match if you ask me. Again I think the shop said the rears metered at 22% or something close to that.

@Ride92. Thanks a lot for this beautiful pic. Your car looks great. My CX-5 (same model/color as yours) is in the shop today to have a clear front bumper paint protector installed and the front windows tinted. The business owner told me he'll test 2 or 3 shades before deciding on the one closest to the rear. His guess was 25%-30% but we'll see what he comes up with.

My guy said the same thing thinking that it was between 25-30% but he went with 20 on the front cause the rears metered out to below 25%. He may meter yours differently. The brand he uses may be slightly different or the meters be slightly different. there seems to be some variation from shop to shop, that one guy said his rears metered at 16% which seems really low to me. I also have the PPF on the front, hood, fender mirrors, door cups and front bumper. As you can see in the picture, you can't see it! Only at the right angle, if your looking for it, do you see the lines

@Ride92
Just got the car back and he went with 20% on the front like yours. It's a perfect match with the rear and I'm very pleased with the result.

Mine are the same. Got the windshield done at 35%. Looks great.

Anyone else with tint pics? My rears measured 22%, fronts 72% from the factory. In Maryland fronts have to transmit 35%, so I guess that means I can legally tint the fronts 50% more.

I am in Maryland as well and will be getting mine tinted. I believe 20% is too dark for here in Maryland. Think I've always done like 30% or something around there.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to leave the rears as is from the factory.

Man, you'd have a good chance of getting pulled over in California with that dark of tint.
When I first read the title I thought it said front window (windshield)... you know they make a clear tint that blocks the UV too. Wonder if that could be put on the windshield, that way the dash and all inside would be protected.

The tint shop I've used before does have a clear film (80% or so transmission) for the windshield - thinking about it. In Maryland the front (side) windows can be 35%, while the rear (side) and liftgate can be anything for SUVs and minivans.

Wisconsin has the same laws about the 35% on the front windows being the darkest. I don't believe it's an offense that they can pull you over for. Just an add on if they get you for something else. Anyhow, before I did it I asked my cousin you is a cop and he said he tints all his windows to match and that most cops don't care but if you're a dick to them they'll write it into the ticket.

Exactly! We call it passing the asshole test. It can be the difference between "Please slow down and have the window tint lightened up some and have a nice day sir" or "sir, here is a ticket for doing 64 in a 55 as well as a ticket for illegal window tint".

One thing I always hear people say is "i like my tint, how much is the ticket. I would rather pay that and keep my tint." (I hear that all the time for just about every offence.)
They are thinking a $35 ticket is cheap. It is till you add in around $200 for court costs.

I will mention the last time I got pulled over was in a buddy's car about 6 years ago. He had a like 2008 Dodge charger with 22's and limo tint. Hey, it was his thing at the time. An unmarked Sheriff pulls up beside us going down the highway then back off and jumps behind us and hits the lights. He told my buddy he could write him a ticket for the tint or would overlook it and give him a chance to take it off if he could search the car. Short story is that was the only time another guy other than a doctor has ever checked out my package.

Point is, regardless of if your state says it is a secondary, tint along with other things might justify reasonable suspicion in the officers mind to investigate further.

Now that I'm the one that has to pull people over and approach a car with blacked out windows, I can see why officers have always been against dark tint. Really increases the stress factor on some nights.

Just saying, if you do go dark, it is a good idea to go ahead and lower your windows and maybe turn on the interior lights before the officer approaches. Might mean the difference in a ticket.

I did the windshield with clear tint...and I could immediately tell the difference when sitting in the sun, and the front windows to match the rears. Also, the rear windows do not have any UV protection - they come from the factory as "privacy tinted" or something like that, so I also had the clear tint put over the rear windows/hatch window as well to add UV protection. I'm in Florida, so it's probably more beneficial here than most places. About a year ago, had a rental with zero tint on any windows -- in the summer in Florida -- and it was virtually unbearable. The AC could not keep up. I felt like I was in a sweaty fish bowl :)

Well, If I ever do get pulled over I will make sure that I roll my windows down right away, both sides. They can't see the tint when the windows in the door! And being a father of two and in my mid 30's I'm not doing suspicious stuff that would warrant a car search. I'm not worried about having 20% on the front windows to match the rear. If I went all windows down to 5% then maybe I would be worried.
